Salary Range: $19.80 - $19.80 Hourly
Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises children and program activities, ensuring awareness of each camper's location at all times.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and standards, including safety, emergency, behavior guidance, and child abuse prevention; makes ADA accommodations; maintains program site, equipment, and records.
  • Nurtures children through purposeful, culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate programming aligned with Y’s values.
  • Builds positive relationships with youth; models relationship-building skills.
  • Encourages youth leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, and reflection opportunities.
  • Communicates regularly with parents/caregivers about child's progress; connects families to the Y.
  • Participates in family nights, activities, staff meetings, and training.
  • Supervises and coaches volunteer Jr. Counselors; reports performance to Camp Director.
  • Adheres to policies protecting youth from abuse, including screening, training, supervision, and responding to allegations; communicates commitment to youth protection.
  • Follows mandated reporting requirements.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be 18+ and a high school graduate or equivalent.
  2. Experience with children in camp preferred.
  3. Experience in outdoor living, camping, music, skits, sports, aquatics, or recreational games preferred.
  4. Ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities.
  5. Experience with diverse populations; ability to build positive relationships across backgrounds.
  6. Current CPR (Adult, Infant & Child) and First Aid, AED certifications.
  7. Complete Praesidium Child Abuse prevention training within 15 days of hire.
  8. Must have or be obtaining:

- Negative TB Test

- HIV/Bloodborne Pathogen training

- MERIT ID account

- DCYF Required Trainings

- Food Handlers Card

- Cleared Portable Background Check from MERIT

- MMR Immunization Record

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical requirements include sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to supervise activities safely, the ability to lead in various settings, and visual acuity for close and distant vision. The environment is usually moderate to high noise level. Reasonable accommodations are made for individuals with disabilities.
