Job summary

Google's Devices & Services team in Mountain View, CA seeks a Mid-level Camera Control Systems Calibration Engineer to design and validate camera actuator control systems for production and new technology cameras. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define figures of merit, assess user impact, and set meaningful specification limits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with mechatronic system control design.
  • 2 years of experience programming in Python.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze camera actuator's control systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define relevant figures of merits and to assess their user impact for both production and new technology cameras. Evaluate the correlation between Figures of Merit (FOMs) and user impact. Propose meaningful specification limits, taking into account assembly tolerance and metrology limitations.
  • Collaborate with the vendors to understand their current capabilities and drive them for improvement; to ensure correct implementation of tests and calibrations; to thoroughly examine the factory data and identify anomalies.
  • Conduct lab validation and troubleshooting, accurately and rigorously characterizing the actuator hardware performance quantitatively and qualitatively. Develop new test equipment and algorithms.
  • Develop automated frameworks for measurement and data analysis using Python and C++ to enhance calibration and validation efficiency.

Mid experience driving progress, solving problems, and mentoring more junior team members; deeper expertise and applied knowledge within relevant area.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with mechatronic system control design.
  • 2 years of experience programming in Python.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with advanced actuator driving and sensing technologies.
  • Experience with camera contract manufacturers and in vendor management.
  • Experience with real-time control implementations on embedded hardware (e.g., MCUs, FPGAs).
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and Python software development, including familiarity with Git/version control systems, peer code reviews, and structured software development lifecycle processes.

US Salary Range

$132,000 - $189,000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits
