Job summary

The Caltrans Electrical Supervisor position is located in Mojave, CA, and reports to the Caltrans Maintenance Area Superintendent. You will supervise an electrical crew, schedule maintenance, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental requirements on electrical inventory items at Mojave and nearby sites.

Normal work shift is 4/10, Mon-Thu, with overtime, night calls, and possible weekend work. A valid driver's license is required and some travel (up to 40%) may be necessary.

Qualifications

• Possession of a valid Class C driver license.
• Class B or A driver license with N endorsement is desirable.
• Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Electrical Supervisor exam.

Job Description and Duties

The Caltrans Electrical Supervisor is under the supervision of the Caltrans Maintenance Area Superintendent. This position is located in Mojave and is responsible for the maintenance and Levels of Service on electrical inventory items. Incumbent supervises and schedules work for the electrical crew and building maintenance in Mojave. The incumbent may cover for the Electrical Supervisor in Bishop and may work together on projects with the Bishop Electrical crew. Follows safety/health policies and procedures as contained in the Departments Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Requires knowledge of environmental, storm water, emergencies, natural disasters, accident prevention techniques, and safe work practices. Follows and enforces CAL/OSHA and safety rules and regulations, National Electronic Code and the District Maintenance Code of Safe Operating Practices. Incumbent is responsible for the proper maintenance/operation of assigned equipment.

Working Conditions

Position located at 1365 CA-58, Mojave, Kern County.

Multiple postions may be filled from this recruitment.

This position requires visual and color acuity adequate to successfully perform the essential functions of the job, willingness to work at odd hours, be available for day or night calls, stay abreast of current technological changes in the fields of electricity and electronics, work up to 550 feet above pavement or water, work in the midst of traffic, and have the ability to withstand working under adverse (e.g., cold, wet, windy) weather conditions. Required to work in a wide range of sometimes extreme conditions, including heat, cold, strong winds, rain, dust, noise, etc. This includes heat up to 120 degrees and cold temperatures to -15 degrees. Work may be performed inside of climate controlled buildings, but most operations will take place alongside, over or upon state highways and right of way. The incumbent will be exposed to noise, inclement weather, dirt, odors, uneven surfaces, heights up to 550 feet above pavement or water and in the midst of traffic, confined spaces, concrete products, cleaning solvents, high speed traffic conditions and moving construction equipment.

Normal work shift is 4/10, Monday through Thursday. Please note that the schedule may change at the discretion of the District Management and/or Supervisor. Employee may be scheduled to work weekends and/or night shift as needed to meet operational needs. May be required to work overtime and/or respond to call outs due to storms, emergencies, special projects or when the Supervisor deems that it is in the best interest of the State. This position requires out of town travel up to 40% of the time.
