Job summary

Bristol Myers Squibb in Sacramento is seeking a Director, State Government Affairs to shape California health policy, advancing patient access, affordability and innovation. This role serves as the primary BMS representative to the California Legislature and Governor's Office.

You will lead advocacy strategies for California and Hawaii, and collaborate across policy, legal, market access and corporate affairs to drive policy change and strategic engagement.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of governmental affairs or lobbying experience in California.
• Deep knowledge of California policy, Medi-Cal and regulatory processes.
• Proven ability to influence legislation and policy with broad stakeholder networks.
• Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute California and Hawaii government affairs strategies aligned with priorities.
• Influence state policy by engaging legislators, Governor’s Office, and agencies.
• Build policy champions across California government and regulatory bodies.
• Translate complex policy topics into clear messages for senior leaders.
• Lead budgeting, consultants, and advocacy partnerships with compliance in mind.
• Collaborate with policy, legal, market access, medical, and communications teams.
