Job summary

Caliday is seeking a School Age Teacher in Towson, MD to support the Program Director in before- and after-school care. You will implement age-appropriate activities, ensure a safe, engaging learning environment, and communicate with families about program happenings.

The ideal candidate has an AA or bachelor’s degree (or equivalent hours), 9 clock hours of staff/parent training, CPR/First Aid, ADA training, and 400 hours of experience with school-age children.

Qualifications

• AA or bachelor’s degree (or credit equivalent) in Elementary Education, Psychology, Child Development, Family Studies or a similar discipline.
• 9 clock hours of training in communicating with staff, parents, and the public; CPR and First Aid training; Basic Health and Safety training; ADA training.
• Candidates must have 400 hours of experience working with school-age children in a professional environment.

Responsibilities

• Manages the program space, ensuring compliance with MSDE-OCC regulations and company standards.
• Provides a welcoming environment for children, parents and visitors.
• Implements age-appropriate activities aligned with Caliday curriculum and manages classroom behavior.
• Assists and supervises children during activities; uses Conscious Discipline for behavior guidance.
• Communicates with parents about program happenings and provides regular updates.
• Maintains open communication with team, parents, and school community.
• Ensures classroom appearance, cleanliness, and safety.
• Identifies opportunities or problems in the program and collaborates with team.
• Maintains annual certification requirements including Continuing Education Credits.

Caliday School Age Teachers assist the Program Director in the operations of the before and after care program for school age children; implementing activities to ensure the Caliday mission, vision and values are upheld, and the children are provided with a safe and learning environment. To provide support and direction to the teacher assistant.

Essential Functions:

• Manages the program space, ensuring compliance with all MSDE-OCC regulations, company standards, policies and procedures.

• Provides a welcoming and friendly environment for all children, parents and visitors.

• Implements activities that are age-appropriate and stimulating in accordance with the provided Caliday curriculum; manages effective classroom management.

• Assists and supervises children during all activities; counsels children as needed using Conscious Discipline and appropriate behavior management techniques.

• Communicates effectively with parents, e.g., greeting by name, addressing concerns in a timely manner, giving positive feedback, and providing regular updates on program happenings.
\
• Maintains open and effective communication with team, parents and school community.
\
• Ensures that the appearance, cleanliness, and safety of the classroom environment is appropriately maintained.
\
• Identifies opportunities and/or problems in the program and works with the other team members to resolve.
\
• Maintains yearly certification requirements including Continuing Education Credits.

Requirements

Education/Experience:

• The ideal candidate will have an AA or bachelor’s degree (or credit equivalent) in Elementary Education, Psychology, Child Development, Family Studies or a similar discipline OR the 45 clock hours Child Development, birth through school-age, and the 45 clock hours Curriculum for School Age Care
\
• The ideal candidate will have the 9 clock hours of training in communicating with staff, parents, and the public, CPR and First Aid training certificate, Basic Health and Safety training certificate and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) training certificate.
\
• Candidates are required to have 400 hours of experience working with School Age children in a professional environment.
