Position Overview
The Calibration Technician Lead will apply knowledge of measurement science, mathematics, physics, and electronics to calibrate inspection, measurement, and test equipment in the Acoustical, Chemical, Dimensional, DC/Low Frequency, RF/Microwave, Fluid, Mechanical, Optical, Thermodynamics, and Time & Frequency disciplines to ensure measurement accuracy.
The Calibration Technician Lead will identify and utilize appropriate measurement procedures. This position acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments, uses ability as a skilled specialist to contribute to development of concepts and techniques, and works on assignments that are extremely complex in nature where independent action and high degree of initiative are required in resolving problems and developing recommendations. Calibration Technician Lead may be authorized to report opinions and interpretations.
Responsibilities and Duties
1. Calibrate inspection, measurement, and test equipment (IM&TE) in one or more of the following disciplines – Acoustical, Chemical, Dimensional, DC/Low Frequency, RF/Microwave, Fluid, Mechanical, Optical, Thermodynamics, and Time & Frequency, in order to ensure compliance with published specifications.
2. Maintain primary and/or intrinsic calibration standards.
3. Maintain secondary and/or working calibration standards.
4. Perform maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of precision equipment.
5. Develop calibration procedures and methods, according to detailed specifications, blueprints, drawings, and other technical requirements.
6. Collect, compile, measure, summarize, and record data gathered during calibration.
7. Analyze measurement data for identifying abnormalities, trends and/or predicting future values.
8. Identify IM&TE out-of-tolerance conditions and perform corrective action via adjustments, component replacement, correction factors, etc.
9. Identify and correct measurement errors, as applicable
10. Prepare calibration reports and certificates
11. Inspect and evaluate new calibration standards for proper operation before releasing to calibration laboratory.
12. Adapt existing calibration equipment, standards, and techniques to accomplish unique measurements tasks for which they are not principally used
13. Apply engineering knowledge to the design and development of calibration methods, fixtures, and IM&TE not commercially available
14. Perform uncertainty evaluation and analysis for measurement standards and associated measurement processes
15. Design and document measurement reference material for laboratory use.
16. Conduct technical audits of the calibration laboratory to verify traceability of standards and compliance with published standards and guidelines
17. Develop software for calibrating IM&TE. ( May be performed, but not in all positions)
18. Develop software for the maintenance of calibration standards (May be performed, but not in all positions)
19. Develop, implement, and maintain the calibration laboratory's quality systems per published standards and guidelines
20. Train subordinates in calibration concepts and procedures
21. Provide technical advice to other departments of the organization
22. Interact with other technicians, management, Customer Service Representatives, Account Managers, and customers
23. Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned
Qualifications
1. Prefer AA degree or PMEL certificate
2. Must be able to perform general math and algebra functions
3. Understanding of basic statistics
4. Must be able to perform basic trigonometry functions
5. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills
6. Technical writing ability
7. Intermediate ability to troubleshoot, repair, align and optimize precision equipment
8. Intermediate computer skills
9. Proficient in use of MS Word and Excel
10. Minimum eight years of calibration experience
11. Knowledge of Quality Management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 17025 and Z540)
12. Must have outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills
13. Strong attention to details
14. Must be a self-motivator, work as a team player, and follow written procedures
Physical Demands
1. Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds without assistance.
2. Occasional standing and bending are required.
Working Environment
1. Works primarily in a laboratory or manufacturing environment at a SIMCO location and/
or customer sites
2. Travel may be required to other domestic and possibly international locations
