Job description

Join the Pharmaceutical Calibrations and Instrumentation (PCI) team! We are seeking a Calibration Technician II who can perform calibrations onsite at our client pharmaceutical facilities in Lebanon, IN, Indianapolis, IN, and other regional locations as needed. If you prefer working at a fast pace, "on the go" rather than at a desk, have a passion for quality work, and possess a strong electronics or instrumentation background, this position may be ideal for you! Up to 50% travel may be required based on project and client needs.

This position focuses on performing preventive maintenance, qualifications, relocations, and calibrations of instruments such as electronics, temperature devices, pressure gauges, centrifuges, incubators, balances, and others found in pharmaceutical manufacturing and laboratory environments.

The Calibration Technician reports directly to the Team Leader, Manager, or Director, depending on the organizational structure. This is a full-time, hourly position.

Expectations:

Calibration Technicians complete calibrations, qualifications, and preventive maintenance tasks with accurate and timely GxP documentation, following PCI and/or client-specific policies and procedures. They are expected to proactively support the team and provide excellent client support, building trust through consistently upholding PCI values such as Honesty, Integrity, Pride, Accountability, Teamwork, and Commitment. The Tech II is expected to have a broader knowledge of instrumentation and regulatory compliance, continue training on new instrumentation areas, and develop an understanding of pharmaceutical and FDA requirements. Increased client interaction will occur as the Tech II deepens their understanding of PCI's services and potential for service expansion.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  1. Completing calibrations, maintenance, qualifications, commissioning, and troubleshooting/repairs safely, timely, and accurately, following PCI and client policies.
  2. Understanding client needs through effective communication and developing relationships via excellent customer service.
  3. Maintaining a neat and professional work area and projecting a professional image.
  4. Identifying potential new opportunities for PCI at client sites and communicating these to leadership.
  5. Performing calibrations, qualifications, and preventive maintenance with minimal supervision, ensuring proper documentation and safety.
  6. Performing flow, conductivity, pH, mass, and dimensional calibrations with guidance.
  7. Completing timesheets accurately and assisting colleagues with proper coding of time and expenses.
  8. Proper handling and maintenance of PCI and client equipment, including testing and standards equipment.
  9. Learning troubleshooting and repair skills; most work involves scheduled calibrations and maintenance.
  10. Reporting safety issues and educating peers on safety practices.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Understanding of traceability, standards substitution, and test accuracy and uncertainty ratios.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical instrumentation, as well as process control systems.
  • Ability to calibrate instruments and systems in manufacturing, utilities, and laboratory environments.
  • Physical ability to climb stairs, equipment, and perform moderate to heavy lifting.
  • Electrical safety knowledge and panel familiarity.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Reliable, eager to learn, and team-oriented.
  • Ability to make independent decisions within scope, seeking clarification when needed, and working independently.
  • Expanded understanding of calibration concepts, standards, and industry regulations, with basic GMP knowledge.
Experience & Education:

A two-year degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, Electronics, or related field, or equivalent military training plus two years of relevant experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in quality systems/pharmaceuticals is preferred.
