Calibration Technician
The Calibration Technician maintains the accuracy, traceability, and service status of production, inspection, measuring, and test equipment used throughout Vermillion. The position performs and coordinates calibrations, maintains calibration records, responds to out-of-tolerance conditions, and supports a compliant measurement-management system so product acceptance decisions are based on reliable equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform internal calibration, verification, and functional checks of inspection, measuring, and test equipment in accordance with approved procedures and manufacturer requirements.
- Maintain the calibration database, equipment identification, status labels, due dates, certificates, standards used, environmental conditions, and complete calibration history.
- Schedule and coordinate calibration services with equipment owners and approved external laboratories to prevent overdue equipment and minimize operational disruption.
- Review supplier calibration certificates for required results, traceability, measurement uncertainty when applicable, accreditation status, and acceptance to purchase-order and procedural requirements.
- Maintain reference standards and ensure calibrations are traceable to the International System of Units through recognized national or international standards.
- Identify and control overdue, damaged, malfunctioning, lost, or out-of-tolerance equipment; notify affected functions and initiate the required impact evaluation and corrective actions.
- Evaluate measurement results against specified tolerances and accurately document as-found and as-left conditions.
- Support internal, customer, and registrar audits by providing calibration records, objective evidence, and timely responses to findings.
- Monitor calibration-system performance, including upcoming and overdue calibrations, equipment history, supplier performance, and recurring issues.
- Assist employees with proper equipment handling, storage, verification, and calibration-status requirements.
- Recommend improvements to calibration methods, intervals, procedures, records, and equipment controls.
- Maintain an orderly calibration work area and protect standards and customer or company equipment from damage or contamination.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

- High school diploma or GED required; technical training in metrology, electronics, machining, quality, or a related field preferred.
- One or more years of calibration, inspection, precision measurement, or related manufacturing experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of dimensional measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, indicators, height gages, pin gages, torque devices, and other inspection equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, and calibration procedures.
- Strong applied math skills, including decimals, fractions, unit conversions, and basic measurement calculations.
- Working knowledge of calibration traceability and quality-management requirements; familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, ISO IEC 17025, or ANSI NCSL Z540.3 is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic calibration or quality-management systems.
- Ability to analyze results, recognize abnormal conditions, and make accurate acceptance decisions within assigned authority.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, recordkeeping, and follow-through.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with production, inspection, engineering, purchasing, and external suppliers.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet due dates, work independently, and protect confidential or controlled information.

PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to frequently use hands and fingers to handle small parts, standards, and precision measuring equipment.
- Ability to inspect fine graduations, digital displays, surface conditions, and color-coded status indicators at close range, with or without corrective aids.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and reach as needed in office, laboratory, inspection, and manufacturing areas.
- Ability to safely lift and move equipment weighing up to 35 pounds; assistance or material-handling equipment should be used for heavier items.
- Ability to work in manufacturing areas where safety glasses, hearing protection, or other personal protective equipment may be required.
