Job summary

Five Keys Schools and Programs seeks a Cal Crew Leader to manage a crew of up to 8 participants across multiple sites in California. You will handle personnel issues, scheduling, and data requirements, including time sheets, while driving the crew van and coordinating with the Program Manager.

Five Keys Overview

Five Keys was founded in 2003 by the San Francisco Sheriffs Department as the first accredited charter high school in the nation to provide diploma programs for adults in county jails. Today we are a much different social justice non-profit agency that has expanded its charter schools into 9 counties, in 24 jail locations and over 80 community learning centers. In addition to our schools, now we also run multiple homeless shelters, employment programs, programs for the unsheltered, reentry programs and housing for women suffering from immense injustice.

JOB SUMMARY

Cal Crew Leader will be responsible for managing a crew of up to 8 participants, including handling personnel issues, scheduling, and all data requirements including time sheets. A Cal Crew Leader will be the primary drivers for the crew van and maintain daily contact with the Program Manager.

You will support the Five Keys mission by creating a learning and work environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking through an equity lens. In addition, you will contribute to our appreciation of diversity and foster a climate of multicultural understanding.

Job Duties And Responsibilities
  • Must be able to drive a passenger van and tow a 10 foot equipment trailer
  • Must be insured and have a clean driving record and accepted under Five Keys company policy
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Able to work with team members and deliver clear instructions
  • Must provide daily pre-job technical and safety instructions and information specific to work locations
  • Scheduling of crews to fulfill tasks by contractors.
  • Must be available by cell phone during normal work hours for technical instructions and emergencies
  • Conduct quarterly safety meetings and provide written documentation of these meetings as required by contract
  • Must conduct and document crew tailgate safety briefings per contract requirements that include hazards specific to work locations and include any applicable seasonal safety hazards
  • Ensure the crews utilize equipment properly and safely. Responsible for the inventory contents of the work van and supplies for crew each day.
  • Manage daily time for crew employees. The field supervisor shall also be responsible for tracking work hours, lunch relief, etc.
  • Provide coaching and appropriate discipline as it adheres to Five Keys policy and procedures
  • Ensure all crew members report to work dressed appropriately to protect themselves from exposure to usual and or/or predictable physical and environmental conditions found in the workplace
  • Ensure at ALL times Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn while working
  • Ensure proper hydration and breaks throughout the day as required
  • Supervisor is required to maintain the security of the van daily; ensure that van returns to designated parking lot
  • Provide progress of assigned work as required, including photographs
  • Other duties as assigned

Education And Work Experience

  • Possess a valid California driver's license with good driving record
  • Passing a Motor Vehicle Report
Physical Requirements
  • Must wear provided PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and adhere to all safety guidelines and requirements, when needed
  • Frequent and prolonged standing, walking, and sitting
  • Frequent talking and hearing conversations
  • Occasional reaching with hands and arms
  • Occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds
