Full Time Oceanside, CA, US

Combine Your Creativity with Purpose. Use Art to Build Skills, Connection, and Independence.

Are you creative, hands‑on, and passionate about using art to connect with and empower others?

TERI is seeking a CAL Behavior Support & Art Enrichment Professional to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through a unique combination of behavioral support, direct care, community engagement, and adaptive art instruction.

In this role, you'll implement individualized behavior and support plans while using painting, drawing, mixed media, ceramics, and other creative experiences to promote communication, emotional regulation, social engagement, confidence, and independence.

This is not a traditional art instructor position. You will serve as a Direct Support Professional first, providing behavioral support, personal care when needed, transportation, documentation, and community‑based support while bringing your artistic abilities into the participant experience.

The professional implements Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), Individual Program Plans (IPPs), and Individual Training Plans (ITPs), provides direct care and community‑based support, documents participant progress, and safely responds to behavioral needs while developing adaptive art experiences for individuals with varying abilities.

Your Role & Responsibilities –
  • Implement individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and instructional strategies while providing behavioral support, positive reinforcement, and approved crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Develop and facilitate adaptive art experiences using painting, drawing, mixed media, ceramics, sculpture, fiber arts, printmaking, and other creative mediums based on participant abilities and interests.
  • Adapt art instruction to accommodate participants' behavioral, cognitive, physical, sensory, and communication needs while promoting self‑expression, confidence, and independence.
  • Provide direct support with community participation and activities of daily living, including personal care, meals, mobility, money skills, shopping, medication support, and other individualized needs.
  • Facilitate community‑based activities and experiences, including museums, galleries, art events, recreation, volunteer opportunities, wellness activities, and other opportunities for meaningful inclusion.
  • Collect behavioral data and maintain accurate documentation of participant progress, services, incidents, medication support, community activities, and individualized goals.
  • Safely transport participants using TERI vehicles while maintaining participant health, safety, dignity, rights, and choice across program and community settings.
Qualifications –
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Art, Studio Art, Fine Arts, Art Education, Recreational Therapy, Creative Arts Therapy, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, significant behavioral needs, or related populations strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated artistic ability and experience with visual arts such as painting, drawing, mixed media, ceramics, sculpture, fiber arts, printmaking, or related creative mediums.
  • Ability to adapt art instruction and activities for individuals with varying behavioral, cognitive, physical, sensory, and communication support needs.
  • Comfortable providing hands‑on direct support, including responding to challenging behaviors, assisting with activities of daily living, and working in both program and community environments.
  • Valid California Driver's License with an acceptable driving record and ability to complete required CPR/First Aid, behavior support, safety, medication, transportation, and program‑specific training.
