As a Bakery Decorator, you'll be responsible for creating and decorating cakes, tarts, pastries, and special-order items, ensuring attention to detail and quality. You'll play a vital role in providing outstanding service and delicious treats that meet our standards, supporting our Core Values and initiatives, and maintaining food safety and compliance.

Job Responsibilities

1. Assemble, fill, and decorate cakes, tarts, and bakery items.
2. Build, ice, and decorate baked goods following standard procedures to meet demand.
3. Prioritize production and recommend adjustments.
4. Merchandise products and monitor quality and freshness.
5. Support and guide Bakery Decorator Apprentices and team members.
6. Create custom cake designs based on customer preferences.
7. Deliver excellent customer service, handle inquiries, and promote suggestive selling.
8. Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in the workspace.
9. Perform opening, mid, and closing duties, ensuring accuracy in signage and pricing.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Skill Requirements

1. Proficient in cake and pastry decorating, including piping and decorative flowers.
2. Understanding of color theory for blending and coordinating colors.
3. Ability to use various icings and apply proper techniques.
4. Follow recipes and procedures with good time management.
5. Safe handling of knives, tools, and equipment.
6. Basic math skills for recipe adjustments.
7. Strong communication and teamwork skills.
8. Ability to meet customer service standards and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Experience

1. 6-12 months retail or restaurant experience preferred.
2. Completion of Bakery Decorator Apprentice program or equivalent experience.
3. Experience in a professional bakery or grocery retail is a plus.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

1. Lift up to 50 pounds.
2. Stand/walk for 6-8 hours in an 8-hour shift.
3. Use hands for grasping, manipulation, and handling tools.
4. Perform bending, twisting, squatting, reaching.
5. Work with cleaning chemicals and in varying temperatures.
6. Work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
7. Use tools and equipment like knives, pallet jacks, ladders.
