Base pay range

$17.50/hr - $30.20/hr

As a Bakery Decorator, you'll be responsible for creating and decorating cakes, tarts, pastries, and special-order items. You'll use your artistic talents to build and finish all specialty bakery goods, ensuring every detail is perfect. You'll play a key role in providing outstanding service and delicious treats that meet our quality standards. Additionally, you'll support our Core Values, promote company initiatives, and adhere to all Food Safety and compliance duties.

Job Responsibilities

1. Assemble, fill, and decorate cakes, tarts, and other bakery items.
2. Build, ice, and decorate cakes following standard procedures to meet demand. Maintain production and spoilage records and adjust production sheets as needed.
3. Prioritize production and suggest adjustments for efficiency.
4. Display products attractively and monitor quality and freshness, ensuring proper rotation.
5. Support and guide Bakery Decorator Apprentices and team members.
6. Create custom cake designs based on customer preferences.
7. Provide excellent customer service, addressing needs promptly, and practicing suggestive selling.
8. Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in the workspace.
9. Perform opening, mid, and closing duties accurately, including signage and pricing.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Skill Requirements

1. Proficient in cake and pastry decorating, including piping and floral decorations.
2. Understanding of color theory for blending and palette coordination.
3. Skillful use of all icing types and techniques.
4. Ability to follow recipes and procedures with good time management.
5. Safe handling of knives, tools, and equipment.
6. Basic math skills for recipe adjustments.
7. Strong communication and team collaboration skills.
8. Customer-focused with a strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Experience

1. 6-12 months of retail or restaurant experience preferred.
2. Completion of Bakery Decorator Apprentice program or equivalent experience.
3. Experience in a professional bakery or grocery retail preferred.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

1. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
2. Stand/walk for 6-8 hours in an 8-hour shift.
3. Use of hands for grasping, manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
4. Bending, twisting, squatting, reaching required.
5. Exposure to cleaning chemicals and varying temperatures.
6. Work in wet and dry conditions, flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
7. Use of tools and heavy machinery, including ladders.
