Summary
The Cake Decorator is responsible for designing and decorating cakes, cupcakes, and other bakery products to meet the specific requests of customers, while also maintaining the company’s quality standards. This role involves preparing and decorating baked goods, handling custom orders, and maintaining a clean and organized work area. The Cake Decorator is expected to provide excellent customer service and contribute to the overall success of the bakery department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
General Requirements:

• Engages with customers in a friendly and knowledgeable manner, providing assistance and guidance on bakery products. Takes special orders and ensures customer satisfaction with custom designs and decorations.
• Demonstrates time management skills and models a flexible work style, adapting to shifting priorities and department needs.
• Upholds company values and works cooperatively with team members to maintain a positive work environment.
• Provide and receive feedback constructively, contributing to a collaborative and respectful culture.
• Contributes to sustainability initiatives and conserves company resources in alignment with the company’s mission, vision, and values.
• Adheres to work and safety policies, including local, state, and federal regulations, contributing to a safe and clean work environment.
• Follows company policies and department-specific guidelines, upholding company standards.

Position Responsibilities:

• Collaborates with customers to create custom cake designs, ensuring accuracy, quality, and customer satisfaction.
• Prepares icings, fillings, and other decorating materials, ensuring freshness and proper consistency for decorating.
• Monitors bakery inventory, including cake bases, decorations, and other supplies, and communicates replenishment needs to management.
• Maintains an organized and sanitary work area, following all food safety regulations and cleanliness standards.
• Ensures that all finished products are properly labeled and attractively displayed in the bakery case, ensuring compliance with merchandising standards.
• Assists in bakery production when needed, including baking cakes, cupcakes, or other items for decorating.
• Works with bakery team members to achieve department goals, including meeting sales targets and margin objectives.
• Assists with special orders, ensuring timely and accurate fulfillment.
• Follows standard operating procedures for opening, closing, and maintaining bakery displays.
• Provides excellent customer service by offering product recommendations and answering questions about bakery items.
• Participates in department meetings and training to stay updated on new products, procedures, and company initiatives.
• Performs other tasks and duties as assigned by management.

Physical Demands
This position works at a Heavy level. Frequently required to stand, walk, and use hands and wrists to handle, grasp, and feel objects. Required to lift, carry, push, or pull items up to 50 pounds. May occasionally need to bend, stoop, kneel, or reach at/above/below shoulder level.

Work Environment
Work occurs in a grocery store environment which includes surfaces that may be wet and slippery, moderate noise levels, and temperature extremes in controlled environments in the cooler and freezer. There may be exposure to certain allergens and chemicals.
