Job summary

Wareham Public Schools Food Service Program in Wareham, Massachusetts is seeking a Cafeteria Worker to join the team for a full-time 35-hour week during the school year.

This role handles meal production, service, sanitation, and safety, including serving meals, portioning accurately, cash handling, and operating school cafeteria equipment. Benefits include health insurance, dental, vision, and 10 paid holidays.

Qualifications

  • Willing and able to be trained in basic nutrition, sanitation, and use of equipment.
  • Basic mathematical and clerical ability to record food produced and meal counts at designated sites.
  • Able to work in an efficient, courteous, and cooperative manner with the staff and public.
  • Able to communicate positively and effectively in a team environment.
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Maintain the ability to stand, reach, lift, carry, bend, kneel, climb, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Serve meals to students and staff.
  • Ensure safe and proper portioning of food.
  • Make sure that all intended reimbursable meals include the required food items on the tray.
  • Use proper food handling techniques (hand washing methods, gloves, masks, and hair restraints) as needed.
  • Refill serving line as needed between lunches.
  • Operate a computer to process lunch charges.
  • Manage cash drawer. Accurately count and record cash total each day.
  • Responsibly manage snack station and accompanying cash box or drawer.
  • Assist in end of day cleanup, including washing/sanitizing pots, pans, dishes, silverware, tables, and all other equipment as necessary.
  • Prepare food for meal service using standardized recipes.
  • Operate various equipment in a safe manner (convection ovens, steamers, kettles, steam tables, tilting skillets, microwaves, ranges, slicers).
  • Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Ensure that all food, dry goods, and chemicals are handled and stored appropriately.
  • Date, rotate, and discard food items as appropriate.
  • Monitor the temperature of food as it passes through storage, production, and service.
  • Ensure that the kitchen and cafeteria are sanitized and organized.
  • Make sure that all equipment, dishware, and utensils are sanitized.
  • Perform any and all other tasks as assigned by the Cafeteria Manager.
  • Interact in a professional and courteous manner with the students and staff.

Job Description

Full-time position to work 35 hours per week during the school year.

Cafeteria workers are eligible to enroll for various full-year benefits under the Town of Wareham including health insurance, dental, vision, etc.

Includes 10 paid holidays during the school year.

  • Maintain the minimum training requirements under the USDA Professional Standards in School Nutrition Programs
  • Food safety and sanitation certificate preferred but not required
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
  • High School/Trade School degree preferred.
