Job summary

Marlborough Public Schools seeks a Cafeteria Helper for Kane Elementary School in Marlborough, MA. The 3-hour-per-day role supports meal service and kitchen operations for the 2026-27 school year.

The position reports to the School Cafeteria Manager and Food Service Director. Immediate start, with duties ranging from food prep and serving to inventory, cleanliness, and student supervision in the cafeteria.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
• Experience in food service industry preferred.
• Must be a positive contributor as a team player.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Performs tasks requiring an ordinary degree of skill in preparation and serving of food as well as other tasks required for the operation and sanitary maintenance of a food service facility or area.
• Prepares vegetables and other foods for cooking
• Makes soups and other simple hot foods, sandwich fillings, salad dressing, and simple desserts.
• Prepares sandwiches and salads.
• Serves lunch and snacks.
• Operates electrical equipment such as mixers, potato peelers, slicing machines, dishwashers, and toasters.
• Cleans tables and other kitchen equipment.
• Collects and washes dishes, silver and cooling utensils, and puts them away.
• Sweeps floor, cleans counters and tables, and counter and kitchen equipment, such as food containers, trays, cooking ranges, garbage cans, and refrigerators.
• Receives and checks deliveries of food and other supplies.
• Stores foods properly in refrigerators and storeroom.
• Keeps stores in good order.
• Assists in the taking of inventories of supplies, cashiering, and keeps simple records.
• Works as a member of a cafeteria staff team.
• Assist and monitor students in the cafeteria
• Responsible for other general duties as assigned by the School Cafeteria Manager and Food Service Director, as indicated by the Principal, directives of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee and policies of the Marlborough School Committee.
