Marlborough Public Schools is hiring a Cafeteria Helper at Kane Elementary School for 3 hours per day. The role supports lunch service, food preparation, and sanitation in a public school kitchen.

The assistant handles simple meals, serves food, and helps with equipment operation and student supervision as part of the cafeteria team under the Cafeteria Manager and Food Service Director.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
• Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
• Experience in food service industry preferred.
• Must be a positive contributor as a team player.
• Alternatives to the above qualifications may be acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Performs tasks with ordinary skill in preparation and serving of food and maintaining sanitary operations.
• Prepares vegetables and other foods for cooking.
• Makes soups, sandwiches, salads and simple desserts.
• Serves lunch and snacks to students.
• Operates kitchen equipment such as mixers, dishwashers, toasters and slicers.
• Cleans tables, counters, equipment and stores supplies properly.
• Receives and checks deliveries; assists in inventory and record keeping.
• Works as a member of a cafeteria staff team and supervises students when needed.
• Assists and monitors students in the cafeteria as directed.

Organizational Relationship or Line of Authority:

Reports to the School Cafeteria Manager and Food Service Director

Statement of Duties:

• Performs tasks requiring an ordinary degree of skill in preparation and serving of food as well as other tasks required for the operation and sanitary maintenance of a food service facility or area.
• Prepares vegetables and other foods for cooking
• Makes soups and other simple hot foods, sandwich fillings, salad dressing, and simple desserts.
• Prepares sandwiches and salads.
• Serves lunch and snacks.
• Operates electrical equipment such as mixers, potato peelers, slicing machines, dishwashers, and toasters.
• Cleans tables and other kitchen equipment.
• Collects and washes dishes, silver and cooling utensils, and puts them away.
• Sweeps floor, cleans counters and tables, and counter and kitchen equipment, such as food containers, trays, cooking ranges, garbage cans, and refrigerators.
• Receives and checks deliveries of food and other supplies.
• Stores foods properly in refrigerators and storeroom.
• Keeps stores in good order.
• Assists in the taking of inventories of supplies, cashiering, and keeps simple records.
• Works as a member of a cafeteria staff team.
• Assist and monitor students in the cafeteria
• Responsible for other general duties as assigned by the School Cafeteria Manager and Food Service Director, as indicated by the Principal, directives of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee and policies of the Marlborough School Committee.
