Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs seeks a Food Service Worker to perform tasks across kitchen operations, including food preparation, serving, cleaning, and tray delivery in a USDA VA Medical Center setting.

Position involves rotating shifts (early, mid, and late) with weekends/holidays rotation and duties per standardized recipes and menus. Candidates will be assessed against standard VA qualifications and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Experience: evidence of training or experience demonstrating ability to perform duties; evaluated per OPM Federal Wage System standards.
• Screen-out element: qualifications evaluated; those not meeting minimum become ineligible.

Responsibilities

• Set up assigned station with supplies and food items.
• Serve food cafeteria style and portion servings.
• Break down and clean the station after service.
• Set up dining tables and replenish items as needed.
• Deliver meal trays to patients and report comments to supervisor.
• Prepare beverages and cold/ salads per recipes.
• Assist cooks with weighing, measuring, and assembling ingredients.
• Operate and clean all equipment in food service areas.
• Move and store dishes, scrape and wash cookware.
• Perform heavy cleaning tasks and waste separation.
• Ladder work or cleaning equipment may be required.
• Shift times: 6:00am-2:30pm, 6:30am-3:00pm, 11:30am-8:00pm; rotating weekends/holidays.
