Job summary

Stonewall Kitchen Café in York is seeking an experienced Kitchen Cook to join our energetic team. You will prepare fresh sandwiches, salads and cafe favorites, step in on the line during busy periods, and help keep prep organized for smooth service.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of professional kitchen experience with hands-on line cooking.
• Ability to independently manage cooking shifts and cover the line when needed.
• Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, equipment, and safe food handling.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook menu items following recipes, standards and quality expectations.
• Cover the cooking line during vacations, callouts and busy service periods.
• Prepare fresh sandwiches, salads, dressings, and other café favorites.
• Slice and prep ingredients, including breads, vegetables, meats and cheeses.
• Keep stations clean, organized, and well-stocked for service.
• Work with the team to ensure accurate and efficient order preparation.
• Maintain fresh ingredients, rotate inventory, monitor supplies and minimize waste.
• Adhere to all food safety and sanitation standards.

What You'll Do

• Prepare and cook delicious menu items, following Stonewall Kitchen recipes, presentation standards, and quality expectations.
• Step in to cover the cooking line during vacations, call-outs, busy service periods, and other staffing needs.
• Prepare fresh sandwiches, salads, cold sides, dressings, sauces, and other café favorites.
• Slice and prep fresh ingredients, including breads, vegetables, meats, and cheeses.
• Keep the kitchen running smoothly by organizing daily prep lists and ensuring food is ready for service.
• Work alongside a great team to prepare orders accurately and efficiently, even during busy periods.
• Maintain fresh ingredients, rotate inventory, monitor supplies, and help minimize food waste.
• Keep cooking and prep stations clean, organized, and well-stocked.
• Follow food safety, sanitation, and kitchen safety standards.
• Pitch in with other kitchen and café duties as needed.

Requirements

What We're Looking For

• 3–5 years of professional kitchen experience, including hands-on line-cooking experience.
• Confidence and ability to independently manage cooking shifts when needed.
• Knowledge of cooking techniques, kitchen equipment, knife skills, and safe food-handling practices.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced kitchen.
• A positive attitude, attention to detail, and a willingness to jump in wherever needed.
• A team player who takes pride in preparing great food and delivering a consistent guest experience.
• Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as scheduled.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodation.
