Job summary

Paramount Schools of Excellence seeks a Barista to serve at the on-site school coffee shop, welcoming all stakeholders and supporting the front desk. You will prepare coffee drinks, maintain stock, and ensure equipment runs smoothly while upholding safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains inventories by replenishing coffee bean supply; stocking coffee brewing equipment; maintaining supplies for coffee bar.
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and sanitation regulations.
  • Support the School Administration team and School Front Desk.
  • Contribute to the organization's mission and reflect the priorities of the school.
  • Financial planning and management of the coffee shop.
  • Participate in fundraising activities as appropriate.

Role and Responsibilities

Reporting to the School Principal, the Barista will serve as a welcoming presence at the school to all stakeholders who visit the coffee shop and front desk.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares and delivers coffee drinks by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques for coffee drinks.
  • Maintains inventories by replenishing coffee bean supply; stocking coffee brewing equipment; maintaining supplies for coffee bar.
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.

The employee is exposed to high frequency electrically operated equipment.

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 20% walking, and 40% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and to bend, stoop, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.

This job operates in a professional facility, specifically an on-site coffee shop, school, and office. The Barista usually works in the coffee shop and may occasionally work in an office environment, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces. The Barista works during school hours but may work evenings, weekends, and any additional hours necessary to accommodate activities such as Board meetings and representing the organization at public events.
