Job summary

Books A Million in Gastonia, NC is hiring a Barista to join the café team. Under the supervision of the General Manager, you will prepare coffee, specialty drinks, and baked goods, while ensuring a clean, organized environment and excellent customer service.

You will handle cash, promote store programs, and support bookstore operations as needed. This role requires multitasking and the ability to learn multiple café machines.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Successful completion of all required background screenings.

Responsibilities

• Operate café equipment and prepare coffee, specialty drinks, bottled drinks, and baked and prepared goods.
• Maintain a clean environment within sanitation guidelines.
• Complete ongoing daily and weekly cleaning of surfaces, machinery and utensils, and customer areas.
• Stock and merchandise café in accordance with company policies; maintain an organized shopping environment.
• Greet customers entering the store and café, providing exceptional customer service on each transaction.
• Promote POS initiatives and company programs including discount cards, vouchers, and donation programs.
• Balance cash drawer after each shift per Loss Prevention Policy.
• Assist the bookstore as needed.
• Perform other tasks as needed.

Under the direction of the General Manager a Barista performs a variety of tasks specific to the successful operation of the Café following the prescribed guidelines for service.

Roles and Responsibilities

• During the majority of the shift, this is an independent position with backup provided on an as-needed basis.
• Operates Café equipment and prepares coffee, specialty drinks, bottled drinks, and baked and prepared goods.
• Maintains a clean environment within local, state, and federal sanitation guidelines.
• Completes ongoing daily and weekly cleaning of food surfaces, machinery and utensils, and customer areas.
• Stocks and merchandises café in accordance with company policies and procedures, maintaining a straight, organized, and clean shopping environment.
• Greets customers entering the store and café, and provide exceptional customer service on each transaction.
• Successfully promotes all POS initiatives and company programs including, but not limited to discount cards, pre-sale vouchers, and donation programs.
• Balances cash drawer following each shift within allowable variances as identified in the Loss Prevention Policy.
• Assists the bookstore as needed.
• Performs other tasks as needed.
