Job Summary

To provide our guests and servers with bakery items and beverages in an efficient and consistent manner, while maintaining a positive and cooperative attitude. Oversees the café service to offer a high quality, efficient beverage service that adds to a superior guest experience and is in accordance with licensing regulations associated with food handling.

Essential Job Functions

Demonstrate a perfect knowledge of all beverages featured in our menus.

Prepare drinks of consistent quality following recipe cards with proper production and portion standards.

  • Greet guest and patrons entering the building in a friendly manner.
  • Welcoming customers, reading and listening to people to determine beverage preferences, making recommendations, and taking drink orders. Ensure guest satisfaction by engaging in conversation.
  • Selling coffee and tea blends, highlighting the differences between items and educating customers about brewing methods and the origins and flavors to best answer customers' questions.
  • Taking inventory and replenishing items in display cases, at tables, or behind the counter.
  • Resolve guest complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction.
  • Maintain visually appealing and effective displays for the entire café counter.
  • Prepare and serve food for consumption on the café premises or package them up for takeout orders.
  • Answer incoming calls to the café and provide appropriate service.
  • Provide bakery and beverage service to guests seated at the café bar and process in a timely manner.
  • Learn menu items, specials and food products in order to be knowledgeable to customers.
  • Remain attentive to guests, adhering to or exceeding service standards.
  • Performs café opening and closing procedures.
  • Maintain sanitation, health and safety standards in work areas.
  • Keep breakage to a minimum by handling china, glassware and fragile equipment with care.
  • Date all food containers and rotate as per company standards, making sure that all perishables are kept at proper temperatures.
  • Return all food items not used on next shift to designated storage areas, being sure to cover/date all perishables.
  • Sweep and mop floors.Keep floors clean and dry, pick up wet spills immediately.
  • Clean equipment, walls, tables, racks, sinks, floor mats and disposal area.Polish stainless steel.
  • Pitch in to help with special and deep cleaning projects.
  • Collect trash and take to outdoor trash container.
  • Perform all duties according to safety procedures, including the use of PPE.
  • Maintain and promote a positive and cooperative work relationship with all hotel departments.
  • Follow all procedures and policies set forth by the company, and department.
  • Handling cash, credit, and debit card transactions, ensuring charges are accurate and returning correct change to patrons, balancing the cash register, be able to account for any discrepancies.

Work Environment

Exposed to extremely hot water and steam.

Exposed to sharp objects.

At times exposed to noisy kitchens and distracting sound levels, especially during busy times.

Physical Demands

Ability to go up and down stairs often during shift, sometimes with large, heavy items.

Requires regular listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.

Requires ability to reach, bend, stoop kneel, and frequently lift up to 40 pounds intermittently during the work shift.

Requires ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time

Must have finger, hand and upper body dexterity to operate food machinery, grasp dishes, push, pull, carry and lift racks, carts, and large trash bins.

Must have moderate hearing to hear customers, supervisors, and communicate with other staff.

Must have moderate comprehension and literacy to read use records and all special requests.

Must have ability to perform multiple tasks at one time, must be able to follow verbal and written instruction, and be able to communicate both verbally and in writing.

Must be highly organized and able to pay attention to sound and sight details in crowded and noisy situations, particularly when handling multiple tasks.

Regularly required to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, bend, squat, reach & retrieve items from above head.

Expected Work Hours and Location

Work is any time during operational hours to include morning, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Possibility of working weekly hours work to extend beyond 40.

One Location – Bradford House

Education and Experience

1+ years of prior barista experience.

High School diploma or equivalent.

Safety training and any required food handling certificates.

Familiarity with hospitality industry.

Other Eligibility Qualifications

Legally eligible to work in the United States.

Strong computer skills.

Able to read and speak the English language well.

Able to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.

Reliable transportation.

Pay

$8.00 per hour plus 100% pooled tip evenly split amongst staff per shift, averaging $50-$100 in tips per shift

Hours

Monday-Thursday 6am-4pm, Fri-Sun 6am-5pm, 2-3 Barista's scheduled per morning.

Employee Discounts

Restaurant: All employees will receive 50% off food for themselves on shift and 30% off food for up to five (5) guests off shift. The employee must always be accompanying their guest. No alcohol is discounted for employees or their guests ever.

Hotel: All employees will receive 35% off the posted Best Available Rate for a maximum number of 10 room nights per calendar year. The employee may stay themselves or offer to a friend or family member.
