Job summary

ESP Associates, Inc. is seeking a CADD Technician, Civil in Raleigh to provide drafting support for substation, transmission line, and site civil deliverables. You will work with civil designers and engineers on layouts, grading, stormwater, and permitting drawings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 2+ years of CAD drafting experience; civil/site/utility background preferred.
• Proficiency in Civil 3D and/or AutoCAD.
• Working knowledge of civil design standards, plan and profile drawings, and permitting drawing sets.
• Exposure to substation or transmission civil drafting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up drawings in accordance with CAD standards.
• Prepare plots for substation, transmission line, and site civil deliverables.
• Incorporate redlines into site layout and stormwater drawings quickly and accurately.
• Perform basic area and volume calculations for grading and stormwater.
• Utilize aerial photography and survey data within civil drawing sets.
• Create sitemaps with utilities for site design plans.
• Prepare basic design drawings and final construction drawings for site layouts and containment structures.
• Draft ROW access improvement drawings, including culvert sizing and stabilization specs.
• Prepare permitting drawing sets for civil and permitting scoping.
• Coordinate drawing updates with designers and engineers across projects.

About the Role:

As a CADD Technician, Civil you will provide drafting and technical support to our civil designers and engineers on substation, transmission line, and right-of-way civil deliverables — including site layout, grading, retaining walls, stormwater, and permitting drawing sets.

What You Will Be Doing:

• Set up drawings in accordance with specified CAD standards
• Prepare drawing plots relative to substation, transmission line, and site civil deliverables as directed by designers and engineers
• Incorporate redlines or markups into substation site layout, grading, retaining wall, and stormwater drawings quickly and accurately per engineering reviews
• Perform basic area and volume calculations to support grading, retaining wall, and stormwater design
• Utilize existing aerial photography and survey data within civil drawing sets
• Create sitemaps with utilities for substation and transmission site design plans
• Prepare basic design drawings and final construction drawings for substation site layout, retaining walls, containment structures, and control house plans
• Draft transmission right-of-way access improvement drawings, including culvert sizing details and stabilization specifications
• Prepare permitting drawing sets to support civil and permitting scoping for transmission lines and substations
• Coordinate drawing updates with civil designers and engineers across grading, stormwater, and right-of-way access improvement projects

What You Bring:

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• Associate degree or certificate in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Technology or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology (preferred)
• 2+ years of CAD drafting experience; civil, site, or utility background preferred
• Proficiency in Civil 3D and/or AutoCAD
• Working knowledge of civil design standards, plan and profile drawings, and permitting drawing sets
• Exposure to substation or transmission civil drafting (preferred)
• Ability to read and accurately interpret redlines, markups, and engineering plans
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company's driving (MVR) policy
