Job summary

Pickett, an ESP Associates company, is seeking an Associate Engineer to provide entry-level engineering and technical support on electric transmission design projects for HV overhead utility systems in Jacksonville, FL. The role covers guidance for line routing, survey coordination, PLS-CADD modeling, structure and foundation design, and procurement coordination.

You will contribute to work packages, estimates, and constructability evaluations while supporting multiple projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required.
  • EI/EIT certification is preferred.
  • 1+ years of related transmission line engineering experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with design codes and standards such as NESC, IEEE, ASCE and ACI.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, calculations and sketches.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and understand design criteria for HV transmission projects.
  • Build design models using the PLS software suite.
  • Develop and analyze foundation designs (e.g. FAD, FD6, APile, LPile).
  • Spot structures and evaluate clearance and utilization in PLS-CADD.
  • Evaluate design alternatives and provide commentary.
  • Run reports in PLS-CADD (Structure Checks, Stringing Charts, etc.).
  • Prepare work packages, release letters and more.
  • Produce estimates of man-hours and completion dates for tasks.
  • Manage multiple tasks across projects.

About the Role:

As an Associate Engineer, you will provide entry-level engineering/technical expertise on electric transmission design projects for high-voltage (HV) overhead utility systems.

This position prepares guidance for line routing, survey coordination, PLS-CADD modeling, structure design, foundation design, clearance checks, plan/profile development, material specification and procurement, constructability evaluations, work order package preparation, permitting, vendor/subcontractor coordination and construction support.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Learn and understand design criteria

What You Bring:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (required)
  • EI/EIT certification (preferred)
  • 1+ years of related transmission line engineering experience in the electric utility industry (preferred)
  • Experience with design codes and standards such as NESC, IEEE, ASCE and ACI
  • Understanding of basic practices for researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations
  • Ability to prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches
  • Ability to work in a safe manner and obey safety regulations at all times.
  • Ability to be a self-starter and thrive in an unstructured, varied, and deadline-driven work environment
  • Effective communication skills (verbal, written and presentation skills)
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy
