Job summary

Pickett, an ESP Associates company, seeks a CADD Technician, Civil, to support designers on substation, transmission line, and right-of-way civil deliverables. You will layout sites, grade, and draft containment structures while ensuring CAD standards are met and redlines are accurately integrated.

Position requires 2+ years CAD drafting experience with Civil 3D/AutoCAD, a strong eye for detail, and solid communication.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree or CAD certificate or Bachelor’s in Engineering Technology preferred.
• 2+ years CAD drafting experience; civil/site/utility background preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up drawings per CAD standards.
• Prepare plots for substation, transmission line, and site civil work as directed.
• Incorporate redlines into site layout, grading, and stormwater drawings accurately.
• Perform basic area and volume calculations for grading and stormwater.
• Utilize aerial data in civil drawing sets and create site utility maps.
• Prepare basic design drawings and final construction drawings for sites and structures.
• Draft ROW access improvement drawings with culvert sizing details and stabilization specs.
• Coordinate updates with engineers across grading, stormwater and ROW projects.

About the Role:

As a CADD Technician, Civil you will provide drafting and technical support to our civil designers and engineers on substation, transmission line, and right-of-way civil deliverables — including site layout, grading, retaining walls, stormwater, and permitting drawing sets.

What You Will Be Doing:

• Set up drawings in accordance with specified CAD standards
• Prepare drawing plots relative to substation, transmission line, and site civil deliverables as directed by designers and engineers
• Incorporate redlines or markups into substation site layout, grading, retaining wall, and stormwater drawings quickly and accurately per engineering reviews
• Perform basic area and volume calculations to support grading, retaining wall, and stormwater design
• Utilize existing aerial photography and survey data within civil drawing sets
• Create sitemaps with utilities for substation and transmission site design plans
• Prepare basic design drawings and final construction drawings for substation site layout, retaining walls, containment structures, and control house plans
• Draft transmission right-of-way access improvement drawings, including culvert sizing details and stabilization specifications
• Prepare permitting drawing sets to support civil and permitting scoping for transmission lines and substations
• Coordinate drawing updates with civil designers and engineers across grading, stormwater, and right-of-way access improvement projects

What You Bring:

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• Associate degree or certificate in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Technology or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology (preferred)
• 2+ years of CAD drafting experience; civil, site, or utility background preferred
• Proficiency in Civil 3D and/or AutoCAD
• Working knowledge of civil design standards, plan and profile drawings, and permitting drawing sets
• Exposure to substation or transmission civil drafting (preferred)
• Ability to read and accurately interpret redlines, markups, and engineering plans
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company's driving (MVR) policy
