Job summary

Pickett, an ESP Associates company, is seeking a Survey CAD Technician in Gainesville, FL. You will produce land survey drawings from field data, manage computations, and integrate GPS data to support project deliverables.

You will apply AutoCAD extensively, coordinate with field crews, and perform QA/QC on all products while meeting safety standards and project schedules.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma (required).
• Graduate of a two-year program in computer-aided drafting and design techniques (asset).
• Minimum of 3–5 years of practical surveying and mapping experience with AutoCAD or similar CAD software (preferred).
• Valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to company insurance provider (required).
• Ability to work safely and follow regulations at all times.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and surveying software; knowledge of Trimble data collection and robotic total stations (preferred).
• Extensive knowledge of Excel, Google Earth, Trimble Business Center, GIS and GPS.

Responsibilities

• Prepare maps and drawings from survey field data including topographic, boundary, base maps and exhibits.
• Reduce field notes and check reductions and calculations.
• Perform coordinate geometry calculations (intersections, curves, area calculations).
• Make adjustments to field calculations and post-process GPS data.
• Incorporate Trimble data, static RTK GPS data into projects.
• Conduct QA/QC on deliverables and verify against sources.
• Research field data, vertical control and geodetic points to ensure compatibility with adjacent properties.
• Travel as needed for fieldwork and site visits.

About the Role:

As a Survey CAD Technician, you will be responsible for the production of various types of land survey drawings and map substitutes from inception to completion with minimal supervision and direction.

What You Will Be Doing:

• Prepare maps and drawings from survey field data. Maps and drawings include topographic maps, route surveys, boundary surveys, base maps, real estate exhibits, right-of-way control maps, site plans, as-builts, quantity surveys.
• Reduce field notes and check reductions and calculations made byothers.
• Routinely perform typical coordinate geometry calculations such as intersections, curves, inverses, areacalculations.
• Make adjustments to fieldcalculations.
• Generate quantities of variousmaterials.
• Prepare pre-calculations and assemble pertinent reference data for field crewsto take to thefield.
• Post process static GPSdata.
• Incorporate conventional optical data, static GPS data and RTK GPS data into projects.
• Conducts quality control checks on compilation and performs QA/QC ondeliverable products.
• Research field survey data, vertical control, certified corner records,geodetic controls points, appraisal maps and other sources to ensure survey work is compatible with adjacent properties and/or previoussurveys.
• Makes vertical control surveys for aerial surveys; determines elevations forvarious surfaces.
• Establishes control for alignment and benchmarks; makes required line and elevation ties to existing centerlines and U.S.G.S. benchmarks.

What You Bring:

• Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma. (required)
• Graduate of a two (2) year program in computer-aided drafting and design techniques from an accredited college or technical school an asset. (preferred)
• Minimum of 3-5 years of practical experience in surveying and mapping which includes the use of AutoCAD or similar computer-aided drafting software. (preferred)
• A valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to our company insurance provider is a condition of initial and continued employment. (required)
• Ability to work in a safe manner and obey safety regulations at alltimes.
• Proficient with latest version of AutoCAD and other surveyingsoftware.
• Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Google Earth, Trimble business center, GIS andGPS.
• Extensive knowledge of survey and mapping principles, practices, standards, procedures and projectmanagement.
• Experience with Trimble data collection, GPS receivers and robotic totalstations.
• Knowledge of and ability to perform complex mathematicalcomputations.
• Considerable knowledge of county, state and local survey laws, ordinances and regulations.
• Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of photogrammetric mapping, LiDAR and other remotesensing.
• Considerable knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices and ability to read and interpret engineeringplans.
• Skill in identifying discrepancies between drawings andspecifications.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and inwriting.
• Ability to solve advanced mathematicalproblems.
• Ability to read and interpret detailed surveying drawings, legal descriptions, deeds, construction plans andabstracts.
• Ability to travel asneeded.
• Candidate must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy
