Job summary

Cleco in Louisiana is seeking a Drafter II to perform mechanical and CADD drafting, preliminary layouts, calculations, and research. This role supports substation and transmission line projects and contributes to departmental objectives.

You will interpret electrical schematics, maintain engineering documents, and assist engineers on site to ensure accurate data and timely project delivery. The position requires attention to detail and collaboration in a safety-focused utility environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus vocational training.
• 3-5+ years of related experience.
• Previous experience in mechanical and CADD.
• Step progression levels based on skill proficiency and scope of job.
• Strong business acumen pertaining to the Utility industry.
• Strong knowledge of leading practices in drafting.
• Strong planning and project management skills.
• Willingness and ability to learn new technologies on the job.
• Proficient at functioning effectively within a team environment, present ideas and opinions in a respective and collegial manner.
• Progression to this level is strictly restricted based on critical individual capabilities and business requirements; must be supported by market survey data.

Responsibilities

• Champions a corporate culture that emphasizes transparency, integrity, safety, environmental responsibility, employee development, diversity and inclusion, customer service, and operational excellence.
• Produces accurate detailed drawings for substations and transmission lines including civil, electrical, structural and plan and profile documents.
• Accurately research any information required to produce design drawings, including interpreting and/or checking electrical schematic drawings for generation and transmission, Cleco standards drawings & vendor drawings.
• Maintain engineering support documents such as percent line files, system maps, quad maps, electrical schematics, civil physical drawings and transmission plan and profiles.
• Files and maintains all electronic and hard copy engineering documents such that the most current version is readily available to all company personnel.
• Operates various plotting and copying equipment to produce documents as required to keep projects on schedule. Assist in maintaining the equipment.
• Accompanies engineers to the job site to assist in collecting complete and accurate data.
