Job summary

Contech Engineered Solutions LLC Career Center is seeking a Structural Steel Designer to create detailed drawings and BOMs, review critical dimensions, and use Tekla, AutoCAD, and Excel to meet project deadlines. You will collaborate with design staff, prioritize workloads, and maintain standard details for product families.

Occasional site visits support manufacturing and installation activities. The role emphasizes precision, teamwork, and adherence to project schedules across national clients

Qualifications

• Associates degree in Drafting, Engineering, or AutoCAD.
• Civil/architectural/construction experience preferred.
• Ability to read site plans and interpret engineering documents.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Tekla, and Excel.
• Excellent communication and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and Drafting: Independently create detailed drawings and BOMs for manufacture and installation.
• Critical Dimensions: Review plans and manuals to determine key dimensions.
• Software Expertise: Use Tekla, AutoCAD, and Excel to complete drawings on schedule.
• Collaboration: Submit and review drawings with peers and coordinate with design staff.
• Quality Assurance: Produce accurate drawings for review and approval.
• Project Prioritization: Prioritize projects based on due dates.
• Standardization: Develop and maintain standard/custom details for product families.
• Communication: Interface between operations, fabrication managers, and engineers as needed.
• Field Visits: Occasionally visit facilities or installation sites.

About the Role:

As a Structural Steel Designer, you will:

• Design and Drafting:Utilize custom programs to independently create detailed drawings and, when necessary, bills of material for the manufacture and installation of our products.
• Critical Dimensions: Review design information, site plans, and manuals to determine critical dimensions for designs.
• Software Expertise:Utilize applications such as Tekla, AutoCAD, and Excel to complete drawings within project deadlines.
• Collaboration:Submit and review drawings with peers as needed. Collaborate with the design staff to determine design requirements, modifications, and resolve issues.
• Quality Assurance:Efficiently produce accurate drawings for review and approval by the design staff.
• Project Prioritization: Prioritize assigned projects based on due dates.
• Standardization:Develop and maintain standard and custom details for all product families.
• Communication:Serve as an interface between commercial operations, fabrication plant managers, customer service representatives, and structural engineers when necessary.
• Field Visits:Occasionally visit manufacturing facilities or product installation sites.

Qualifications:

• Associates degree in Drafting, Engineering, or AutoCAD.
• Civil Engineering, architectural, or construction experience preferred.
• Ability to accurately read and interpret site plans, with knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the civil engineering field.
• Strong technical skills, including proficiency in current versions of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Tekla or related programs, experience in the steel industry preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Excellent mathematical skills and demonstrated attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to changes, delays, and unexpected events.
• Strong ability to read and interpret documents, technical manuals, site plans, and engineering concepts.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
