Job summary

Alliant Engineering, Inc. has an exciting opening for an experienced CAD Technician to join our Land Development team in Minneapolis, MN. You will generate detailed drawings and assist in PS&E packages under a licensed Professional Engineer.

The ideal candidate has AutoCAD Civil 3D experience, strong CAD standards knowledge, and can manage multiple projects while collaborating with PMs and team members.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or certificate in CAD/Civil Eng Tech or related field.
  • 1–8 years experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Understand file structure, CAD standards, survey data processing.
  • Experience applying DOT/State Aid/County/City design standards.
  • Experience leading plan production and PS&E packages.
  • Ability to interpret sketches and specifications into CAD drawings.
  • Balance deadlines and manage multiple projects with teams.

Responsibilities

  • Generate detailed drawings from sketches, plans and specs using CAD tools.
  • Provide technical support for assigned projects with CAD and design aids.
  • Assist in organizing and producing complete PS&E packages for letting and construction.
  • Review scope and fees with Project Manager to understand schedules.
  • Provide training and guidance to develop junior CAD Technicians and EITs.
  • Demonstrate ownership of work and supervise teammates where applicable.
  • Quality control – ensure accuracy, standards compliance, bidability and constructability.
  • Collaborate with multiple project managers to balance tasks and deadlines.

The Impact You’ll Have:

Alliant Engineering, Inc. has an exciting opening for an experienced CAD Technician to join our growing Land Development team in our Minneapolis, MN office.

As a CAD Technician, you will be part of a team that will be given the opportunity to work on a variety of projects in Minnesota. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of plan production and experience with CAD applications and practices in the field of civil design. You will work under the direction of a licensed Professional Engineer.

Responsibilities:
  • Generate detailed drawings from sketches, plans, standard details, specification, and written and verbal instructions using computer-aided drafting programs.
  • Provide technical support for assigned projects, using a computer as an aid to drafting and design.
  • Assists in organizing and producing complete Plans, Specs, and Estimates (PS&E) packages for successful letting and construction.
  • Reviews the scope and fee at the beginning of a new project with the Project Manager to understand the schedule, major deadlines, responsibilities, etc.
  • Provide training assistance and routine guidance to develop less experienced CAD Technicians and EITs.
  • Demonstrate ownership and responsibility for work products being developed by yourself and team members whose work you may oversee.
  • Quality Control – checks plans for accuracy, compliance with standards, biddability, and constructability.
  • Detail oriented and ability to collaborate with multiple project managers.
Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree or certificate in Computer-Aided Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 1 to 8 years experience working with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Ability to understand and oversee proper and efficient project initiation and set up, including file structure, CAD standards, project coordinate systems, and survey data processing.
  • Experience utilizing applicable design standards (DOT, State Aid, County, or City-specific) and applying them in a context-specific manner to their designs.
  • Experience leading the plan production effort, including collaborating with team members assigned to the project developing multidisciplinary plan sets with minimal guidance.
  • Experience with organizing and producing complete Plans, Specs, and Estimates (PS&E) packages for successful letting and construction.
  • Ability to interpret and apply engineering sketches, plans, and specifications to CAD drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance project deadlines, prioritize tasks, and manage responsibilities on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and project managers.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in land surveying or working with survey data for civil design purposes.
  • Familiarity with hydrology, drainage, and stormwater management designs in CAD.
  • Basic understanding of GIS software and its integration with CAD tools.

The base pay for this position is expected to be in the range of $50,000 - $80,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
