• CAD operator or drafting experience or college CAD coursework.
• Experience using AutoCAD or MicroStation.
• Ability to draw components across mechanical, electrical, structural, and architectural disciplines.
• Knowledge of standard 3D drafting practices.
• Familiarity with overhead and underground electric distribution or substations.
• Knowledge of Power BI, Microsoft Office, and AI tools.
• Experience with dashboard creation, data tracking, and reporting.
• Willingness to meet driving and travel requirements.

CAD Drafter – Electric Utility Engineering

Location: Detroit, MI

Work Arrangement: Hybrid

Pay Rate: Up to $39.17 per hour, based on experience

Schedule: Monday–Friday | 40 hours per week

Employment Type: Contract

Travel: Approximately 5%; driving required

Responsibilities

• Create and update engineering drawings using AutoCAD or MicroStation.
• Draw basic mechanical, electrical, structural, and architectural components.
• Apply standard 3D drafting practices to produce accurate technical drawings.
• Work with engineers to translate technical requirements into drawings supporting engineering standards.
• Support documentation related to overhead distribution, underground distribution, or substations.
• Track data and metrics and assist with dashboard development using tools such as Power BI.
• Use Microsoft Office and AI tools to support reporting, documentation, and process improvements.
• Assist with basic PC maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Participate in occasional travel and driving activities as required.

Required Qualifications

• CAD operator or drafting work experience and/or college-level coursework in CAD.
• Experience using AutoCAD or MicroStation.
• Ability to draw basic components across mechanical, electrical, structural, and architectural disciplines.
• Knowledge of standard 3D drafting practices.
• Familiarity with overhead electric distribution, underground electric distribution, or substations.
