Job summary

Space Exploration Technologies Corp (SpaceX) is seeking a CAD Drafter to turn engineering intent into 3D models and released drawings for Starbase infrastructure, enabling rapid design, fabrication, and revision of civil, mechanical and fluid systems used in Starship operations.

The role supports ground systems, collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams, and requires a high school diploma plus 1+ year drafting experience; NX experience is preferred, with knowledge of machining and welding and

• Knowledge of machining, welding, sheet metal and precision measurement equipment.
• Ability to create 3D models and 2D drawings from rough sketches or verbal input.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions from engineers.

Responsibilities

• Support the design and development of mechanical and fluid ground systems for Starship launch engineering and operations.
• Develop 3D models to support launch engineering design and analyses with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Prepare and release new hardware assembly drawings and revise existing drawings per engineers' requests.
• Update designs and models to improve manufacturability.
• Modify CAD models and create drawing revisions as required.

CAD DRAFTER

The Starbase Infrastructure team designs and builds the civil, mechanical, and fluid systems that make Starship operations possible at Starbase. As a CAD Drafter, you will turn engineering intent into 3D models and released drawings so new construction and existing infrastructure can be designed, fabricated, and revised at the speed of the site.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support the design and development of mechanical and fluid ground systems in support of SpaceX Starship launch engineering and operations
• Work with multi-discipline project teams to develop 3D models to support launch engineering design and analyses
• Follow defined SpaceX processes to prepare and release new hardware assembly drawings, and revise existing drawings as requested by launch engineering
• Update existing designs and models to improve manufacturability
• Modify existing CAD models and create drawing revisions as required

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalency certificate
• 1+ years of experience creating architectural construction documents including plans, elevations, sections, and details

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• 5+ years of CAD experience
• Experience with NX
• Experience with machining, welding, sheet metal, and precision measurement equipment and techniques
• Experience with assembly or repair of complex mechanical components
• Experience creating 3D models and 2D orthographic drawings from rough sketches or similar informal input (i.e. verbal instruction, “design a rectangular plate to mate with 01234567-005 using fixed fasteners”)
• Ability to understand and follow instructions from engineers
• Basic knowledge of common materials (e.g. aluminum, steel, stainless, non-ferrous)
• Basic knowledge of standard shapes (e.g. angle, plate, tubing, beams, etc.)
• Strong time management
