Job summary

Champion Home Builders in Athens, TX is seeking a skilled CAD Drafter / Residential Design Specialist to translate sketches into detailed construction drawings. You’ll develop floor plans, elevations, plumbing and electrical layouts, and ensure code-compliant designs.

Collaboration with Sales, Production, and Engineering teams is essential to deliver buildable, high-quality homes. The role requires AutoCAD proficiency, an associate degree or equivalent experience, and a keen eye for detail.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Create detailed construction drawings from sketches, customer requirements, specifications, and engineering data.
• Develop floor plans, elevations, roof systems, plumbing layouts, electrical plans, HVAC duct layouts, cabinetry details, and other construction documents.
• Utilize AutoCAD and other design software to create accurate and code-compliant drawings.
• Collaborate with Sales, Production, Quality, and Engineering teams to ensure designs are functional and buildable.
• Modify and optimize home layouts and building systems to meet customer needs and manufacturing requirements.
• Prepare design calculations and analyses using approved software tools.
• Submit drawings and documentation to third-party agencies for approvals.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable residential and commercial building codes.
• Help solve design challenges and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in Drafting, Design Technology, Architecture, Engineering Technology, or a related field, OR equivalent professional experience.
• 2-5 years of AutoCAD drafting experience.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD
• Strong knowledge of residential and commercial construction methods and building codes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
