Job summary

Champion Home Builders in Athens, Texas is seeking a CAD Drafter / Residential Design Specialist to transform sketches into construction-ready plans for high-quality homes nationwide.

You will develop floor plans, elevations, roof and systems layouts, and produce code-compliant drawings using AutoCAD, collaborating with Sales, Production and Engineering to ensure designs are feasible and builds are efficient. This role offers growth in a collaborative, design-forward team.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent professional experience.
• 2-5 years of AutoCAD drafting experience.
• Strong knowledge of residential and commercial construction methods and codes.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed construction drawings from sketches, customer requirements, specifications, and engineering data.
• Develop floor plans, elevations, roof systems, plumbing layouts, electrical plans, HVAC duct layouts, cabinetry details, and other construction documents.
• Utilize AutoCAD and other design software to create accurate and code-compliant drawings.
• Collaborate closely with Sales, Production, Quality, and Engineering teams to ensure designs are functional and buildable.
• Modify and optimize home layouts and building systems to meet customer needs and manufacturing requirements.
• Prepare design calculations and analyses using approved software tools.
• Submit drawings and documentation to third-party agencies for approvals.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable residential and commercial building codes.

What You'll Do

As a member of our Design team, you will:

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in Drafting, Design Technology, Architecture, Engineering Technology, or a related field, OR equivalent professional experience.
• 2-5 years of AutoCAD drafting experience.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD
• Strong knowledge of residential and commercial construction methods and building codes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
