Job summary

Onward Search is seeking a CAD Designer with strong expertise in electrical engineering and Altium Designer to design complex multi-layer PCBs for a permanent position in New York. You will collaborate with engineers to translate schematics into optimized layouts, ensuring signal integrity, power distribution, and thermal management.

The role requires 5+ years of PCB layout experience and expert-level Altium Designer skills, including library management and output generation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional PCB layout experience.
• Expert-level proficiency in Altium Designer (schematic capture, PCB layout, library management, output generation).
• At least 3+ years of continuous experience with Altium Designer.
• Strong understanding of PCB fabrication and assembly processes (SMT, through-hole, reflow, wave solder).
• Experience with high-speed digital (DDR, USB, Ethernet, HDMI) and power electronics layout (DC-DC converters, motor drivers, battery management systems).

Responsibilities

• Design and lay out complex, multi-layer PCBs (4-16+ layers) using Altium Designer from schematic capture to production release.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers to translate schematics into optimized layouts, ensuring signal, power, and thermal integrity.
• Perform component placement and routing for high-speed digital, mixed-signal, and power electronic designs.
• Define board stackups, impedance-controlled trace geometries, and via structures in coordination with fabricators.
• Create and maintain component libraries, footprints, and schematic symbols in Altium Designer.
