Job summary

TEKsystems in Fairfax, IA, is seeking a Communications Technician for a contract assignment to install work area outlets, drop cables, route through modular furniture, and assemble closets with backboards, patch panels and racks. You will pre-terminate cables, label them, and ensure proper slack and routing.

The role requires outdoor/indoor construction work, ability to climb ladders and work at heights, interpret blueprints, perform fire-stopping, grounding, and low-voltage terminations, with

• Experience with installing and terminating low-voltage cabling and structured cabling.
• Ability to read blueprints and project documents and interpret specifications.

Responsibilities

• Install work area outlets and drop cables as described in project scope.
• Route and secure cables through modular furniture and walls; build closets and mount backboards, racks and patch panels.
• Perform pre-termination procedures, labeling and slack management; ensure proper grounding and fire-stopping.

Description

Install a work area outlet for floor (i.e. monument), modular furniture (i.e. surface mount box) and wall (i.e. box eliminator). Drop cable down a wall using fish tape or other method. Route cable through modular furniture. Perform pre-termination procedures: organize, form, dress cables and determine length, slack, and label cables. Suspend and support cable correctly: Cable tray, J-hook, D-rings, Bridal rings, Trapeze. Build closets (Mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware). Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required.

The Communications Technician performs fire-stopping procedures on fire walls, install sleeves, and pull cable through sleeves and core penetration. Terminate low-voltage devices.

Must be able to work in an outdoor or indoor construction work environment. Self-motivated, positive in approach, professional and help create, develop, and implement project process improvement(s). Must promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients, and business partners.Technician must have proven skill level or the ability to learn to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting, and quality requirements. Must be able to work at heights, off a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds. Must be able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print, and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones. Must be able to travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
