Job summary

Evergy is seeking a Cable Splicer Journeyman in Wichita, Kansas, to join the Wichita Line team. The role requires at least three (3) years experience in the trade, with the ability to install and splice cables, install potheads and other equipment for underground distribution systems and substations.

Selected candidates must complete a formal cable splicer apprentice program, pass a written test and skills demonstration, maintain a valid CDL, live within 35 miles of the Wichita Service Center,

Journeyman Cable Splicers

"shall have at least three (3) years experience in their trade and shall be qualified through knowledge, skill and physical ability to install and splice cables, install potheads and other equipment in the construction, operation and maintenance of underground distribution systems and substations."

Qualified candidates should possess the skills and qualifications listed below:

• Must have completed a formal cable splicer apprentice program.
• Must be able to work on network systems and equipment, including Network Protectors.
• Must be capable of installing, splicing and terminating both primary and secondary cables.
• Must be capable of locating and repairing cable faults of all varieties.
• Must be capable of installing straight splices, transition splices, terminations and other splices.
• Must be able to identify and tag underground cable and equipment.
• Must be able to perform all underground work involving maintenance, repair and routine inspection.
• Must be capable of performing all distribution underground switching.
• Must be able to troubleshoot and repair all underground distribution circuits and equipment.

Must possess/maintain a valid commercial driver's license and will be required to live within 35 Mile radius of the Wichita Service Center.

Selected applicants will be required to perform and successfully complete a written test as well as a skills demonstration.

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
