Qualifications

  • Experience with cold shrink terminations, dead break systems, and separable connector installations.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, schedules, and manufacturer specs.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in West Texas conditions and to travel/overtime as needed.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and reliable attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Install, splice, and terminate 5kV, 15kV, and 35kV MV cables per project specs.
  • Perform cable prep including insulation removal, grounding, shielding, and lug installation.
  • Support outdoor and indoor terminations and connector systems.
  • Read one-line diagrams and cable schedules to guide installation.
  • Coordinate with teams to meet project schedules and energization readiness.
  • Follow safety standards including LOTO, PPE, OSHA, NFPA 70E.

Job description

A growing electrical infrastructure contractor is seeking experienced Medium Voltage Cable Splicers and Terminators to support large-scale power and infrastructure projects in West Texas. This role focuses on medium voltage cable installation, preparation, splicing, terminations, testing support, troubleshooting, and energization readiness for critical electrical systems.

Current work includes 35kV shielded cable systems, outdoor and indoor terminations, separable connector systems, and medium voltage distribution infrastructure supporting industrial and mission critical facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, splice, and terminate 5kV, 15kV, and 35kV medium voltage cable systems in accordance with project requirements and manufacturer standards
  • Perform cable preparation including insulation removal, semi-con removal, grounding, shielding, stress cone preparation, lug installation, and final assembly
  • Install and support outdoor terminations, cold shrink terminations, dead break connectors, separable connectors, and coupling systems
  • Read and interpret one-line diagrams, cable schedules, installation drawings, and manufacturer specifications
  • Verify conductor phasing, cable identification, grounding continuity, and routing prior to energization
  • Support pre-commissioning activities including insulation resistance testing, continuity checks, and phasing verification
  • Maintain organized work areas and ensure proper handling and protection of cable materials and tooling
  • Coordinate with construction, testing, and commissioning teams to support project schedules and energization activities
  • Follow all safety standards including LOTO procedures, PPE requirements, OSHA regulations, and NFPA 70E practices
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience installing, splicing, and terminating medium voltage cable systems up to 35kV
  • Experience with cold shrink terminations, dead break systems, and separable connector installations
  • Background working with shielded EPR and XLPE medium voltage cable systems
  • Ability to work independently from drawings, cable schedules, and installation instructions
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and reliable attendance
  • Ability to work outdoors in challenging West Texas environmental conditions including heat, wind, and extended schedules
  • Valid driver’s license and flexibility for overtime or travel as needed
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with utility, substation, renewable energy, industrial, or data center electrical infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with TE Raychem or equivalent medium voltage termination systems
  • Experience supporting commissioning, turnover, and energization activities
  • OSHA 10, OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, CPR, or First Aid certifications
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry tools, materials, and cable equipment
  • Ability to work in trenches, cable spaces, ladders, lifts, and outdoor environments
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and use hand tools for extended periods
  • Ability to wear arc flash PPE and other required safety equipment
