Job summary

TEKsystems in Mount Pleasant, IA is seeking a Cable Technician Trainee to join a 5-person crew responsible for installing utilities and network infrastructure. You will work in a warehouse environment and help safely install conduit, pipe, and cable.

Under supervision, you will gain hands-on experience with low voltage systems, read utility locates, and coordinate with ground crews. This contract role offers on-site work and a pay range of $18.00 to $23.00 per hour with benefits.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience operating directional boring equipment preferred.
  • Ability to read utility locates, bore profiles, and construction drawings.
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong commitment to safety; valid driver's license.

CABLE TECHNICIAN TRAINEE

JOB SUMMARY

The Cable Technician Trainee will work to install utilities and network infrastructure. The Cable Technician Trainee will work in 5-person crew taking guidance and direction. The Cable Technician Trainee will work in a warehouse environment to setup network services for an enterprise retail leader. With supervision the Cable Technician Trainee and safely install conduit, pipe, and cable services.

DUTIES
  • Operate equipment to install utilities according to project specifications.
  • Work underground and at heights minimizing surface disruption.
  • Perform pullbacks for conduit, pipe, or cable installation.
  • Read and interpret utility locates, bore profiles, and construction drawings.
  • Safely identify and avoid existing utilities.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain power equipment and tooling.
  • Coordinate with ground crews, locators, and supervisors to ensure safe operations.
  • Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized job site.
  • Complete daily production and safety documentation.
  • Follow all company, OSHA, and sitespecific safety policies.
  • Perform job site setup and cleanup, including loading and unloading tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Handdig entry and exit pits as needed.
  • Support potholing and utility exposure activities.
  • Pull conduit, pipe, or cable during bore operations.
  • Operate basic hand and power tools safely.
  • Perform traffic control and site safety tasks when required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance and daily inspections.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience operating directional boring equipment preferred
  • Knowledge of cabling to include copper, fiber or conduit
  • Ability to read utility locates and job plans
  • Mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Indoor/ Outdoor construction site
  • Warehouse environment
  • Physical labor including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr.
