Salary Range: $16.00 - $18.25 Hourly
Description

JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Executive Chef and Sous Chef, the Prep Cook assists the Cook by preparing ingredients, keeping the kitchen clean and orderly, and performing some of the simpler cooking functions as assigned according to the menu. The Prep Cook respectfully interacts with residents, family members, visitors, colleagues, and staff. This is a safety-sensitive position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

It is understood that not every incidental duty connected with operations listed in the job description is always specifically described. Employees, at management's discretion, may be required to perform duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.   • Prepares and cooks food items according to recipes, daily menus, and supervisors' instructions.
  • Takes temperatures at regular intervals and maintains foods in sufficient quantities while minimizing waste.
  • Ensures proper presentation of all food items.
  • Assists in maintaining kitchen sanitation and cleaning schedules.
  • Helps with receiving stock and keeps storerooms, refrigerators, and freezers clean and organized.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job.
ESSENTIAL MENTAL AND PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS

The following functions are required to perform the essential duties of this position:

  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, including frequent movements within the unit. Bending, lifting, carrying, reaching/extension of arms and hands above shoulder height, and moving in a constantly changing environment.
  • Lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 25 lbs. regularly; 30-40 lbs. frequently; up to 75 lbs. occasionally.
  • Standing for the entire workday.
  • Climbing steps regularly.
  • Withstanding temperature extremes in freezer, refrigerator, walk-in, and hot line areas.
  • Reading and writing work-related documents in English.
  • Clear speech recognition and communication, understanding and being understood in English in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Food Safety certification or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
  • Strong sanitation habits.
  • Excellent customer service skills; actively seeks ways to assist residents and coworkers.
  • Ability to recognize problems and communicate them effectively to management.
