Job summary

CLA is hiring a Controller with Technology Industry experience for our CAAS practice, based out of Madison, Milwaukee, or Racine. You will help clients transform their business by mitigating risk, meeting deadlines, and identifying personnel to assist with workforce needs.

Key responsibilities include GAAP mastery, internal controls, budgeting and financial planning, and preparing financial statements and forecasts. CPA preferred but not required; local travel to client sites is common.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree is required. CPA certification is preferred but not required.
• Experience: 7 years relevant work experience as a Controller or equivalent is required.
• Accounting back-office experience is required.
• Relevant experience in the Technology industry is highly preferred.
• Public accounting experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop full knowledge of GAAP (FASB/SFAS) and deep understanding of financial and operational aspects of the technology industry.
• Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
• Coordinate and direct the financial planning, budgeting, procurements, or investment activities for all or part of an organization.
• Prepare financial information and statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.
• Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.
• Communicate on a regular basis with boards, bankers, investors, constituents, etc.; may include prepping for and/or hosting board presentations.

About The Role

CLA is looking to hire a Controller with Technology Industry experience, for our Client Accounting & Advisory Services (CAAS) practice, based out of either our Madison, Milwaukee, or Racine WI office locations. As a Controller, you will help our clients transform their business with a collaborative approach that allows them to seamlessly mitigate risk, overcome challenges, meet deadlines, and identify personnel to help them with their workforce needs.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop full knowledge of GAAP (FASB/SFAS) and deep understanding of financial and operational aspects of the technology industry.
• Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
• Coordinate and direct the financial planning, budgeting, procurements, or investment activities for all or part of an organization.
• Prepare financial information.
• Prepare, or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.
• Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations.
• Monitor ratio and key performance indicators (KPI).
• Monitors and evaluates the performance of accounting and other financial staff, recommending and implementing actions.
• Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.
• Communicate on a regular basis with boards, bankers, investors, constituents, etc.; may include prepping for and/or hosting board presentations.

What You Will Need

• Education: Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree. CPA certification is preferred but not required.
• Experience: 7 years relevant work experience as a Controller or equivalent is required.
• Accounting back-office experience is required.
• Relevant experience in the Technology industry is highly preferred! Public accounting experience preferred but not required.
• Aptitude for developing and maintaining a thorough working knowledge of accounting software and systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Intacct)
• Proficiency with applicable software (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
• Travel: This position works primarily in-office and requires frequent local travel to/from local area client sites. It may require occasional non-local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings and/or other business-related purposes.
