Job summary

CLA, a national professional services firm, is hiring a Controller for its CAAS practice with Technology Industry experience. You will help clients transform their business by developing internal controls, budgeting, and financial reporting while coordinating planning and investments for client organizations.

The role emphasizes collaboration, risk mitigation, and stakeholder communication, with travel to local client sites as needed. CPA preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; CPA preferred but not required.
• 7+ years of experience as a Controller or in an equivalent role.
• Accounting back-office experience required.
• Technology industry experience highly preferred; public accounting experience a plus.
• Proficiency with accounting software and systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Intacct).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Develop internal control policies and procedures for budgeting, cash, and accounting.
• Coordinate and direct financial planning, budgeting, procurements, or investments.
• Prepare financial information and statements for regulatory reporting.
• Monitor KPI and the performance of accounting staff.
• Advise management on financial objectives, policies, and actions.
• Communicate with boards, bankers, investors, and other stakeholders.

About The Role

CLA is looking to hire a Controller with Technology Industry experience, for our Client Accounting & Advisory Services (CAAS) practice. As a Controller, you will help our clients transform their business with a collaborative approach that allows them to seamlessly mitigate risk, overcome challenges, meet deadlines, and identify personnel to help them with their workforce needs.

Primary Responsibilities…

• Develop full knowledge of GAAP (FASB/SFAS) and deep understanding of financial and operational aspects of the technology industry.
• Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
• Coordinate and direct the financial planning, budgeting, procurements, or investment activities for all or part of an organization.
• Prepare financial information.
• Prepare, or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.
• Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations.
• Monitor ratio and key performance indicators (KPI).
• Monitors and evaluates the performance of accounting and other financial staff, recommending and implementing actions.
• Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.
• Communicate on a regular basis with boards, bankers, investors, constituents, etc.; may include prepping for and/or hosting board presentations.

What You Will Need

• Education: Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree. CPA certification is preferred but not required.
• Experience: 7 years relevant work experience as a Controller or equivalent is required.
• Accounting back-office experience is required.
• Relevant experience in the Technology industry is highly preferred! Public accounting experience preferred but not required.
• Aptitude for developing and maintaining a thorough working knowledge of accounting software and systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Intacct)
• Proficiency with applicable software (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
• Travel: This position works primarily in-office and requires frequent local travel to/from local area client sites. It may require occasional non-local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings and/or other business-related purposes.

The compensation range for this position in Illinois is: $87,000.00 – $175,000.00

The compensation range for this position in Maryland is: $116,000.00 – $187,000.00

The compensation range for this position in Massachusetts is: $116,000.00 – $187,000.00

The compensation range for this position in New York is: $128,000.00 – $194,000.00
