Job summary

CLA is seeking a Controller with Technology Industry experience to support our Client Accounting & Advisory Services practice. You will oversee financial planning, budgeting, and accounting, ensuring GAAP compliance and robust internal controls.

The role requires 7+ years as a Controller, back-office accounting experience, and proficiency with QuickBooks, NetSuite, and Intacct. CPA is preferred but not required; travel to local client sites is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; CPA preferred but not required.
• 7+ years of experience as a Controller or equivalent is required.
• Back-office accounting experience required.
• Tech industry experience preferred; public accounting experience helpful.
• Proficiency with accounting software systems (QB, NetSuite, Intacct) and MS Excel.

Responsibilities

• Develop knowledge of GAAP and technology industry financials.
• Develop internal control policies and budgeting procedures.
• Coordinate financial planning, budgeting, and investment activities.
• Prepare financial information and statements for regulatory bodies.

About The Role

CLA is looking to hire a Controller with Technology Industry experience, for our Client Accounting & Advisory Services (CAAS) practice. As a Controller, you will help our clients transform their business with a collaborative approach that allows them to seamlessly mitigate risk, overcome challenges, meet deadlines, and identify personnel to help them with their workforce needs.

Primary Responsibilities…

• Develop full knowledge of GAAP (FASB/SFAS) and deep understanding of financial and operational aspects of the technology industry.
• Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
• Coordinate and direct the financial planning, budgeting, procurements, or investment activities for all or part of an organization.
• Prepare financial information.
• Prepare, or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.
• Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations.
• Monitor ratio and key performance indicators (KPI).
• Monitors and evaluates the performance of accounting and other financial staff, recommending and implementing actions.
• Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.
• Communicate on a regular basis with boards, bankers, investors, constituents, etc.; may include prepping for and/or hosting board presentations.

What You Will Need

• Education: Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree. CPA certification is preferred but not required.
• Experience: 7 years relevant work experience as a Controller or equivalent is required.
• Accounting back-office experience is required.
• Relevant experience in the Technology industry is highly preferred! Public accounting experience preferred but not required.
• Aptitude for developing and maintaining a thorough working knowledge of accounting software and systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Intacct)
• Proficiency with applicable software (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
• Travel: This position works primarily in-office and requires frequent local travel to/from local area client sites. It may require occasional non-local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings and/or other business-related purposes.

The compensation range for this position in Illinois is: $87,000.00 – $175,000.00

The compensation range for this position in Maryland is: $116,000.00 – $187,000.00

The compensation range for this position in Massachusetts is: $116,000.00 – $187,000.00

The compensation range for this position in New York is: $128,000.00 – $194,000.00
