CLA is seeking a Controller with logistics industry experience to join our CAAS practice in Minneapolis, MN. You will lead financial planning, budgeting, and external reporting for distributed clients, partnering with management and boards.

This role emphasizes internal controls, staff leadership, and strategic advice to clients in distribution, trucking, warehousing, and 3PL sectors; travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; CPA preferred but not required.
• 7+ years accounting/financial experience; logistics industry preferred.
• Proficient in accounting software; QuickBooks experience preferred.
• Strong proficiency with Excel and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for budgeting, cash management, and accounting.
• Coordinate financial planning, budgeting, procurements, and investment activities; prepare financial information.
• Direct preparation of financial statements, reports, and forecasts for regulatory needs.
• Evaluate procurement needs and investments; provide strategic recommendations.
• Monitor KPI, financial staff performance, and implement improvements.
• Advise management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
• Communicate with boards, bankers, and investors; prepare board presentations.

As a member of CLA’s CAAS practice, you will be an integral part of the CLA client service team and will work directly 1:1 with our clients to provide customized accounting services to support them as they manage and grow their business or organization.

CLA is looking for a Controller with Logistics industry experience, to join our CAAS (_ Client Accounting & Advisory Services _) practice based out of Minneapolis, MN office location. Our logistics team primarily serves clients across the distribution, trucking and transportation, warehousing, and third-party logistics (3PL) sectors, providing outsourced accounting and strategic financial leadership solutions.

Job Description:

• Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
• Coordinate and directs the financial planning, budgeting, procurements, or investment activities for all or part of an organization. Prepare financial information.
• Prepare and/or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.
• Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations.
• Monitor ratio and key performance indicators (KPI).
• Monitor and evaluates the performance of accounting and other financial staff, recommending and implementing actions.
• Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.
• Communicate on a regular basis with boards, bankers, investors, constituents, etc.; may include prepping for and/or hosting board presentations.

Education/Experience:

• _ Education: _ Bachelor’s degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree. CPA certification is preferred but not required.
• _ Experience _: 7 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience is required (logistics industry experience is highly preferred). Public accounting experience preferred.
• Aptitude for developing and maintaining a thorough working knowledge of accounting software and systems. QuickBooks experience is highly preferred.
• Proficiency with applicable software (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
• _ Travel _: This position requires working primarily in-office, including local travel to/from client sites, as well as occasional non-local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings and/or other business-related purposes.

• An understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (FASB/SFAS) or other comprehensive basis of accounting

The compensation range for this position in Minnesota is: $98,000.00 – $168,000.00
