Job summary

CLA is seeking a Controller with logistics industry experience to join our CAAS practice. You will lead financial planning, budgeting, and controls for distribution, trucking, warehousing, and 3PL clients, delivering outsourced accounting and strategic leadership.

This role requires a Bachelor's degree and about 7 years of relevant accounting experience; CPA preferred but not required. Travel to client sites is expected; QuickBooks and MS Office proficiency are important.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate needs for funding and investment of surpluses and make recommendations.
• Monitor KPI and the performance of accounting staff; implement improvements.
• Advise management on financial objectives, policies, and actions; communicate with boards and investors.

CLA is looking for a Controller with Logistics industry experience, to join our CAAS (Client Accounting & Advisory Services) practice. Our logistics team primarily serves clients across the distribution, trucking and transportation, warehousing, and third-party logistics (3PL) sectors, providing outsourced accounting and strategic financial leadership solutions.

Job Description

• Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
• Coordinate and directs the financial planning, budgeting, procurements, or investment activities for all or part of an organization. Prepare financial information.
• Prepare and/or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.
• Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations.
• Monitor ratio and key performance indicators (KPI).
• Monitor and evaluates the performance of accounting and other financial staff, recommending and implementing actions.
• Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.
• Communicate on a regular basis with boards, bankers, investors, constituents, etc.; may include prepping for and/or hosting board presentations.

Education/Experience

• Education: Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree. CPA certification is preferred but not required.
• Experience: 7 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience is required (logistics industry experience is highly preferred). Public accounting experience preferred.
• Aptitude for developing and maintaining a thorough working knowledge of accounting software and systems. QuickBooks experience is highly preferred.
• Proficiency with applicable software (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
• Travel: This position requires working primarily in-office, including local travel to/from client sites (depending on location), as well as occasional non-local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings and/or other business-related purposes.

The compensation range for this position in Minnesota is: $98,000.00 - $168,000.00
