Job summary

GFL Environmental, Inc in North Carolina is seeking a C Tech Mechanic to perform preventative maintenance and basic repairs on our fleet of Diesel and CNG vehicles. This entry-level role offers hands-on learning with shop leadership and senior technicians in a fast-paced environment.

You will gain experience with brake systems, engine components, emissions, and test driving; you will complete work orders, learn diagnostic software, and pursue ASE certifications as you grow your career in fleet

Qualifications

• 1+ years of entry-level mechanical experience or formal automotive/diesel technician training.
• Familiarity with DOT/OSHA safety standards.
• Basic computer skills and willingness to learn diagnostic software systems.
• CDL Class A/B preferred or willingness to obtain within 6 months of employment.
• ASE certifications are a major plus.

Responsibilities

• Preventative maintenance: oil changes, tire rotations, brake checks, PM inspections.
• Hands-on diagnostic and repair: inspect brakes, engine, emissions, steering, bearings, hydraulics.
• Road-ready testing: assist with test driving trucks to verify repairs.
• Safety: perform DOT and safety inspections and maintain a clean shop.
• Digital & administrative: complete work orders, order parts, track tasks in shop software.
• Grow professionally: participate in training and development opportunities.

The Role

Are you ready to gear up and accelerate your mechanical career? As a C Tech Mechanic, you will work closely with shop leadership and senior technicians to perform preventative maintenance and basic repairs on our diverse fleet of Diesel and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

• Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine oil changes, tire rotations, brake checks, and scheduled PM inspections to keep trucks operating safely and smoothly.
• Hands-On Diagnostic & Repair: Work alongside senior mechanics to inspect brake systems, engine components, emission systems, steering, wheel bearings, and hydraulic systems.
• Road-Ready Testing: Assist with test driving trucks to evaluate performance and verify completed repairs.
• Safety First: Perform DOT and safety inspections while maintaining a safe, organized, and clean shop environment.
• Digital & Administrative: Complete daily digital work orders, order parts, and track maintenance tasks efficiently using shop software.
• Continuous Growth: Participate actively in training classes and professional development opportunities to upgrade your technical skills.

What You Bring to the Team

• Experience: 1+ years of entry-level mechanical experience or formal automotive/diesel technician training.
• Drive to Learn: A genuine enthusiasm for diagnosing complex mechanical systems and expanding your skills.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with DOT, OSHA, and general safety compliance standards.
• Tech-Savvy: Basic computer skills and willingness to learn diagnostic software systems.
• Driver's License: A valid driver's license. A Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred (or the willingness to earn one within 6 months of employment).
• Certifications: ASE certifications are a major plus!
• Team Player: Great communication skills and a positive, collaborative attitude.

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs (push/pull up to 100 lbs).
• Willingness to work in a active shop environment with continuous visual and mental attention to detail.
