Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is hiring a C Tech Mechanic in Garner, NC. This entry-level role supports preventative maintenance and basic repairs on diesel and CNG fleet vehicles, working with senior technicians and shop leadership.

Ideal candidates have 1+ years of mechanical experience or formal automotive/diesel training, and a drive to learn. You will perform oil changes, PMs, brake checks, and assist with diagnostics, road tests, and safety inspections.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of entry-level mechanical experience or formal automotive/diesel technician training.
  • Familiarity with DOT, OSHA and safety compliance standards.
  • Willingness to learn diagnostic software and shop technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance: oil changes, tire rotations, brake checks, and PM inspections.
  • Assist with diagnostics and repairs on brake systems, engines, emissions, steering, wheel bearings and hydraulics.
  • Support road-ready testing and evaluate performance after repairs.
  • Conduct DOT and safety inspections to maintain a compliant shop environment.
  • Complete daily digital work orders, order parts, and track maintenance tasks in shop software.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to upgrade technical skills.

The Role

Are you ready to gear up and accelerate your mechanical career? As a C Tech Mechanic, you will work closely with shop leadership and senior technicians to perform preventative maintenance and basic repairs on our diverse fleet of Diesel and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles. This entry-level role is perfect for someone with a solid foundation who is eager to learn, grow their technical toolkit, and build a rewarding career in fleet maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine oil changes, tire rotations, brake checks, and scheduled PM inspections to keep trucks operating safely and smoothly.
  • Hands-On Diagnostic & Repair: Work alongside senior mechanics to inspect brake systems, engine components, emission systems, steering, wheel bearings, and hydraulic systems.
  • Road-Ready Testing: Assist with test driving trucks to evaluate performance and verify completed repairs.
  • Safety First: Perform DOT and safety inspections while maintaining a safe, organized, and clean shop environment.
  • Digital & Administrative: Complete daily digital work orders, order parts, and track maintenance tasks efficiently using shop software.
  • Continuous Growth: Participate actively in training classes and professional development opportunities to upgrade your technical skills.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Experience: 1+ years of entry-level mechanical experience or formal automotive/diesel technician training.
  • Drive to Learn: A genuine enthusiasm for diagnosing complex mechanical systems and expanding your skills.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with DOT, OSHA, and general safety compliance standards.
  • Tech-Savvy: Basic computer skills and willingness to learn diagnostic software systems.
  • Driver's License: A valid driver's license. A Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred (or the willingness to earn one within 6 months of employment).
  • Certifications: ASE certifications are a major plus!
  • Team Player: Great communication skills and a positive, collaborative attitude.
Physical Demands

Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs (push/pull up to 100 lbs). Willingness to work in a active shop environment with continuous visual and mental attention to detail.
