The Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) in Delaware is seeking a Social Service Specialist I to be the first point of contact for clients, assess needs, and connect them with appropriate services. Qualifications

  • Six months experience in record keeping.
  • Six months experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
  • Knowledge of health or human services support, interviewing clients and assessing needs or coordinating with community resources to obtain client services.

Summary Statement

The Social Service Specialist I is the first point of contact for all clients and public entering the center. By conducting the first interview, you’ll assist clients by assessing their needs and determining the appropriate services or programs for them. For those who are ineligible, you’ll provide referrals to outside services. You will follow the Family Support Operational Plan and Structure procedures and the Note Assessment and Plan (NAP) standards when documenting. You’ll perform other related duties as assigned.

Additional Posting Information

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits. The State of Delaware recognizes the value of telework and flexible working schedules. This position is eligible for Telework according to the State of Delaware’s Alternative Work Arrangement Policy. Conditions of Hire

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. DHSS does not provide employment-based sponsorship. All new hires are required to report to the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment. Sessions are held at designated locations in Kent or New Castle County. This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization) that has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other applicable terms and conditions of employment, in accordance with Title 29, Chapter 59 and Title 19, Chapter 13 and 16. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.
