Job summary

Comal ISD is seeking a part-time tutor at Mountain Valley Middle School to assist students in mastering core subjects within a tutorial setting. You will support teachers, address learning gaps identified by assessments, and maintain confidential student records while fostering a positive learning environment.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, with a Bachelor’s degree and Texas Teaching Certificate preferred. Prior student-facing experience and fingerprinting may be required.

• Maintain strict student confidentiality and report special needs to supervisor as needed.
• Communicate with teachers regarding student progress and needs as requested.
• Provide a positive, calm, and consistent learning environment for students.
• Assist with timekeeping and administrative reports as required.
• Uphold and enforce school policies and ensure safety of students and property.

About the role

To assist students in mastery of academic curriculum in a tutorial setting.

Responsibilities

• Tutor and work with individual students or groups in assigned subject(s).
• Work with classroom teacher and/or campus administration to address areas of weakness as identified from previous STAAR/EOC testing, benchmark classroom exams, and other formative and summative measures.
• Maintain an orderly work area.
• Keep records of student progress as needed, such as behavior, grades, attendance.
• Maintain strict student confidentiality.
• Keep supervisor informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
• Communicate with teachers regarding students' academic progress and/or needs as per request of supervisor.
• Provide a positive, calm, and consistent learning environment for students.
• Communicate with students in a positive and encouraging way.
• Help keep administrative records and help prepare required reports, including accurate records of time worked (timesheets).
• Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Maintain a professional relationship with campus staff.
• Be a positive role model for students.
• Support mission of school district.

Education

• Some experience working with students is preferred.
