Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Conduct internal technical reviews to freeze designs.
  • Develop, test, assemble, and configure project deliverables including FAI and ITests.
  • Mentor incoming control engineers and communicate status to stakeholders.
  • Lead safety and project execution within scope, time, and budget.

Job Purpose

This is a technical specialist role that is responsible for Topside Packaged Equipment design, manufacture, delivery and support. Reports to the supervisor or manager in the Controls and Automation (C&A) Department in Houston, TX.

  • Project Execution per TechnipFMC Engineering Execution Processes and Work Instructions.
  • Adherence to industry standards.
  • Technical engineering leader within the project team.
  • Responsible for specific portions of the project schedule and deliverables.
  • Manages the technical solutions to meet project requirements.
  • Prioritize and anticipate internal and external risks and challenges and recommends best practice solutions and mitigation strategies.
  • Independently design complex subsea equipment with a mastery of one or more products and processes.
Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Technical responsible engineer for topside packaged equipment such as Hydraulic Power Units (HPU), Topside Umbilical Termination Units (TUTA), etc.
  • Documents and adheres to system and product requirements.
  • Conceptualizes and performs design activities, including conducting internal technical reviews to freeze requirements and system/product designs.
  • Develops, builds, tests, assembles and configures project deliverables including Factory Acceptance and Integration Tests.
  • Communicates with customers, project management, and other internal groups project status and issues; tracks and leads project technical issue resolution.
  • Supports projects and products throughout project/product lifecycle.
  • Ensures that the package equipment is delivered on time and compliant with the project requirements.
  • Setting up and configuring test equipment for interface testing with package equipment
  • Provides in-depth mentorship for incoming control engineers.
  • Represents the C&A department internally and externally with regards to technical discussions and solutions.
You are meant for this job if:
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering preferred with a minimum of 2 years of experience in the field.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude required to review and oversee the structural design of the package equipment. Experience working to meet requirements from DNV, ABS, etc.
  • Basic understanding and experience designing Hydraulic Power Units.
  • Experience with rotating machinery such as motors and pumps and how to control them is preferred.
  • Experience with hazardous area classifications and how to mitigate the requirements through appropriate selection of equipment is preferred.
  • Experience with third part approval processes is required. Experience with a variety of Nationally Recognized Test Labs (NRTL) is preferred.
  • Experience with Automating, Controlling, and Monitoring package equipment using local and remote controllers such as PLC, DCS, and locally manual controls.
  • Experience with Safety systems and direct experience implementing safety systems such as SIL, Shutdowns, hardwired I/O, redundant controls and intrinsically safe systems.
  • Specific knowledge of TechnipFMC topsides and subsea control equipment preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical teams responsible for execution of projects constrained by safety, quality, delivery and cost requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple projects and project teams from kickoff to completion.
  • Ability to make independent system recommendations utilizing advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Accuracy, dependability, ability to manage schedule and prioritize work.
  • Ability to work independently - a self-motivated self-starter.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to effectively transfer subject matter expertise.
  • Ability to design complex engineering plans and review design work for systems and products.
  • Advanced technical and project management skills.

  • Work Environment: Spends majority of time in office. Exposed to possible shop or lab hazards including high noise and heavy equipment when in those work areas. Some Travel as necessary visiting TechnipFMC regional offices, plants and makes visits to existing and potential vendor’s facilities as required.

Physical Demands: Frequent sitting and operating a computer. Fast paced atmosphere with multiple priorities and constant change.
