LHH is seeking a Buyer/Planner to manage procurement and inventory planning activities across North American, Asian, and other global suppliers for one of our growing clients in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago. This role will be responsible for balancing quality, cost, and delivery while ensuring materials and products are available to meet current demand and future forecasts. The anticipated salary for this role is between $70,000 and $90,000 plus bonus.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the procurement and planning process, with a focus on quality, cost, and on-time delivery.
- Monitor inventory levels and purchasing needs based on current demand, forecasts, lead times, reorder points, and Min/Max inventory models.
- Create, enter, and issue purchase orders to domestic and international suppliers.
- Communicate regularly with suppliers to monitor open orders and ensure timely delivery.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships while supporting cost negotiations and short- and long-term supplier agreements.
- Track incoming shipments and coordinate required delivery documentation.
- Serve as a key contact for Sales and other internal teams regarding product availability and inventory questions.
- Coordinate with 3PL warehouses to support shipping and receiving activities.
- Proactively expedite supplier shipments and identify, communicate, and resolve potential delays.
- Keep internal stakeholders informed of material shortages, delays, and corrective actions.
- Analyze inventory requirements and determine appropriate quantities needed to replenish products and parts.
- Monitor and help manage surplus, excess, and obsolete inventory.
- Support compliance initiatives and maintain quality control, quality assurance, and product specification documentation.
- Collaborate across departments to identify opportunities to improve procurement, inventory, and supply chain processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, global sourcing, supply planning, or a related supply chain function.
- Proficiency with integrated business software applications; NetSuite experience preferred.
- Knowledge of supply chain and procurement processes; experience with import logistics and international suppliers preferred.
- Understanding of inventory management principles, including surplus and obsolete inventory.
