Job summary

Steel & O'Brien Manufacturing in Cincinnati is seeking a proactive DCC Buyer/Expediter to keep production moving by ensuring materials arrive on schedule. This onsite role collaborates with suppliers, production, and purchasing to manage material flow in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires 2+ years in purchasing/expediting, proficiency with Excel and ERP systems, and strong organizational and communication skills to optimize inventory and meet MRP requirements.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of purchasing, expediting or buying experience in manufacturing or distribution.
• Experience with Excel and ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics.
• Knowledge of purchasing, expediting and MRP processes.
• Strong organizational and analytical problem-solving abilities.
• Detail-oriented with excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Generate, place, maintain, monitor, and expedite purchase orders for production materials and MRO using Dynamics 365.
• Track orders, shipping status, ETAs, and supplier commitments for on-time delivery.
• Research suppliers, pricing, and sourcing options for cost-effective buying.
• Serve as onsite contact for supplier deliveries and receiving issues.
• Manage vendor-managed inventory (VMI) programs and replenishment.
• Collaborate with Production, Sales, Purchasing and suppliers to resolve supply chain issues.
• Purchase finished goods based on MRP requirements and demand.
• Maintain purchasing data, monitor inventory and POs, shortages, and receipts.
• Analyze reports and ensure compliance with policies; support continuous improvement.

DCC Buyer / Expediter

We're looking for a proactive DCC Buyer/Expediter to ensure materials arrive on time and production stays on schedule. In this hands‑on, onsite role, you'll partner with suppliers, production, and purchasing to support material flow in a fast‑paced, high‑growth manufacturing environment.

What You'll Do

• Generate, place, maintain, monitor, and expedite purchase orders for production materials, MRO, indirect purchases, and departmental requisitions using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
• Track purchase orders, shipping status, ETAs, and supplier commitments to ensure on‑time delivery.
• Research suppliers, pricing, and sourcing options to support cost‑effective purchasing decisions.
• Serve as the primary onsite contact for supplier deliveries, receiving issues, and production‑related supply concerns.
• Manage vendor‑managed inventory (VMI) programs, including consumables and hardware replenishment.
• Partner with Production, Sales, Purchasing, and suppliers to resolve supply chain issues and maintain inventory levels.
• Purchase finished goods based on MRP requirements and customer demand.
• Maintain accurate purchasing data and monitor inventory, open purchase orders, stock shortages, overstock, and partial receipts.
• Analyze purchasing reports, ensure compliance with company policies, and build strong supplier relationships.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

• 2+ years of purchasing, buying, or expediting experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment preferred. Internal candidates and those eager to grow are encouraged to apply.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel) and Microsoft Dynamics or similar ERP systems preferred.
• Knowledge of purchasing, expediting, and MRP processes.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Detail‑oriented with excellent communication, follow‑through, and relationship‑building skills.
• Self‑starter with a strong sense of urgency who thrives in a fast‑paced environment.
